I can't believe I spent about as much as I would have on a burger for this thing! I needed a cheap multimeter for a electronics project I was working on, and with Amazon Prime I had it almost as quickly as I would have if I had gone to the store! Note: I bought this for basic functions. Due to its low price I would not suggest it for absolutely critical operations, but that should be obvious.
- The multimeter is accurate - I have used it on known voltages with accurate readings every time
- The probes have long cables, excellent for difficult to reach diagnostics
- The multimeter has a battery testing feature, which while not a selling point is one of the most used functions
- Only uses one AA battery
- Probe storage mechanism below par on my example
My ONLY frustration as I mention above is the lack of a good way to keep the cables neat and tidy. It would seem that the back of my device was manufactured incorrectly - the plastic lips that hold the probes in place either cave in from being too thin, or the probes fall out from such a loose fit. It seems that this is not the case on every device (see comments below) but instead is an anomaly. Some Velcro Cable Tie and Gorilla Glue quickly changed that situation, and with a strap coming round from the front and sticking to the back I can now keep the probes and the long wires in check! I'll throw up a picture for inspiration.
Overall I am very pleased with this multimeter still! I have used it for checking voltages on additions to the inside of my computer (DIY fan set-ups, LED diagnostic project) as well as countless other small electronics projects around the house. It also helped me confirm the lack of voltage on one of our home's outlets.
For non-critical projects, this is a very good purchase. If pinpoint accuracy is a must for you, I would suggest going with something like the Equus 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter.
There is a time and place for digital meters, but they don't always give you the whole picture. I have always preferred an analog meter and this one fits the bill nicely.
