This book is the supplemental material to a separate lesson book. I was looking for something for my family for doing Bible lessons. I did a lot of research and it led me to this series. I liked that it started with Jesus the cornerstone of our faith. I was looking for something that would teach my kids about the bible that had some hands on and was easy for me to use. I decided to try it. Once I got the book I realized I could use this for teaching our kids at church. I love the Activity book it makes it easy for our teachers to prepare. The activity book has coloring pages, activities, memorization, art, games. I have really enjoyed this book. I find that I have learned so much from this series.

This was a great companion to the instructor text, but I thought a few of the activities seemed forced. However, the quality of the coloring pages is excellent, and the variety of activities is nothing short of amazing. Categories include crafts, cooking, history, science, art, and more. There are even a few memory work items, although perhaps not the ones I would have chosen for a 1st grade student. I suspect the ones I would have chosen will show up in either year two or year three, and I'm sure there were reasons to present them in the order that was chosen. I'm flexible, so I used the ones presented.

I would like to see more puzzles in future years. My son, for example loves mazes, dot-to-dot, and is starting to enjoy word search puzzles. I would love to see more of these, and perhaps a few "board games". I would also like to see fewer activities require materials that are not easy to find (finding plastic eggs for one of the early activities was an exercise in frustration - I'm sure I'll find them everywhere a few weeks before Easter, but any other time of year they might as well not exist and I had to make due with plastic food storage containers).

Overall, I thought it was a great book, there are activities we couldn't use that require more than one student, but there are enough activities for each lesson that it was not difficult to find other options most of the time. Like any book of activities there will be some that you love and some that you don't, and you may come up with better activities on your own here and there. I highly recommend picking up this book if you intend to use this curriculum, because even if you don't use many of the activities presented, they WILL give you good ideas for creating your own.

I was blessed and helped to read through this simple book! I like that Peter Enns puts into understandable form what the story of the Bible is and how to present it in age-appropriate ways to children. In a time when many young people are leaving the church because of confusion over the Bible, this way of teaching children the Bible could help many of them navigate issues concerning the Bible that they eventually confront as they get older. Very good book, not only for the children but for those of us who are leading/teaching them!

I don't even know where to start with this amazing curriculum! We absolutely love every single thing about it and this Student text makes it so enjoyable for our daughter and for us! The great coloring pages and activities really make the story of Jesus come to life and engages her so that she really interacts with it and retains the information and the lessons! (And that's saying something when talking about a hyperactive easily distracted 7 year old who gets bored fast!) This book is a Godsend in my opinion and my number one top pick for favorite curriculum in our homeschool. Our seven year old has learned so much and grown so much from one year with this program and we can't wait to see what God has in store for her with the next level. (personally as a parent I feel like I too have experienced tremendous growth with this program as a Christian but also in my Christian parenting relationship with my child)

Just what I was looking for! I love that this series begins with the life of Jesus. The activities are well-designed, intelligent, and fun. Be sure to read the Parent's Guide to Teaching the Bible. I can't think of any other material that has been more formative and helpful in my search for an approach to teaching God's word to my children.

This book was the Bible study program I have been looking for! When trying to do our home based Bible study with young children (5 and under), no matter how well the program started, it would move too quickly into the "raw" side of Biblical history. My kids are still singing "Twinkle Twinkle", they aren't yet ready for the blood and gore, even though it is very real and a part of our religious understanding.
This program focuses on the life of Jesus, which is one of the foundations of our family's Christian belief system.
The program is broken down into units:
Unit 1: Stories Jesus Told
Unit 2: Miracles Jesus Did
Unit 3: Teachings of Jesus
Unit 4: Sermon on the Mount
Unit 5: Jesus' early life
Unit 6: Jesus' Disciples
Unit 7: Opposition to Jesus
Unit 8: The End of Jesus' Life
Unit 9: The Rest of the Story

With this study, you don't get to the crucifixion until near the end of the year long program. It walks the younger child (early elementary) through the life of Jesus, focusing on the things He taught and did. It helps the child understand who Jesus was before jumping to His death and resurrection. The activities are plentiful, interesting, help the stories become real to the children, and teaches lots history about the times of Jesus. You can photo copy pages for your own family, so if you have more than one child you have permission to make copies.

So, if you a looking for a more gentle introduction to Jesus than you normally find in many Bible study programs, this is a great fit. Your child will truly learn about what Jesus did, said, and taught. This is meant to be a year long study and I can definitely see it lasting that long if you go slowly and allow the recommended activities to stand on their own for a total experience. Can't wait for the other years to become available!
