I would like to see more puzzles in future years. My son, for example loves mazes, dot-to-dot, and is starting to enjoy word search puzzles. I would love to see more of these, and perhaps a few "board games". I would also like to see fewer activities require materials that are not easy to find (finding plastic eggs for one of the early activities was an exercise in frustration - I'm sure I'll find them everywhere a few weeks before Easter, but any other time of year they might as well not exist and I had to make due with plastic food storage containers).
Overall, I thought it was a great book, there are activities we couldn't use that require more than one student, but there are enough activities for each lesson that it was not difficult to find other options most of the time. Like any book of activities there will be some that you love and some that you don't, and you may come up with better activities on your own here and there. I highly recommend picking up this book if you intend to use this curriculum, because even if you don't use many of the activities presented, they WILL give you good ideas for creating your own.
This program focuses on the life of Jesus, which is one of the foundations of our family's Christian belief system.
The program is broken down into units:
Unit 1: Stories Jesus Told
Unit 2: Miracles Jesus Did
Unit 3: Teachings of Jesus
Unit 4: Sermon on the Mount
Unit 5: Jesus' early life
Unit 6: Jesus' Disciples
Unit 7: Opposition to Jesus
Unit 8: The End of Jesus' Life
Unit 9: The Rest of the Story
With this study, you don't get to the crucifixion until near the end of the year long program. It walks the younger child (early elementary) through the life of Jesus, focusing on the things He taught and did. It helps the child understand who Jesus was before jumping to His death and resurrection. The activities are plentiful, interesting, help the stories become real to the children, and teaches lots history about the times of Jesus. You can photo copy pages for your own family, so if you have more than one child you have permission to make copies.
So, if you a looking for a more gentle introduction to Jesus than you normally find in many Bible study programs, this is a great fit. Your child will truly learn about what Jesus did, said, and taught. This is meant to be a year long study and I can definitely see it lasting that long if you go slowly and allow the recommended activities to stand on their own for a total experience. Can't wait for the other years to become available!
