I did my brakes about 8 years ago with the G2 Epoxy paint system. The thing that really impressed me about the coating material is the resistance to brake dust. After all these years, the brakes are relatively clean without any cleaning.

The coating material easily results in a shiny finish (three coats). Good preparation is necessary - use the enclosed brake cleaning fluid. If the brakes are fairly old and encrusted with brake dust, you may want to buy more cans of the stuff from the auto parts store if needed - don't skimp on the preparation. Use wire brushes if needed to clean all the little crannies.

Although I have seen pictures of painting done while the brake calipers are attached to the car, it's best if you can remove them from the car (do this only if you are capable of properly refilling the brake fluid and bleeding the brakes) or at least dismount them from the suspension mount and hang them to avoid immediate contact with any other brake parts. Alternatively, take the time to mask all parts not to be painted.

Mix only the amount you can apply within the working time for the product. It is a two part epoxy and will harden over a short period of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product June 14, 2011

Painted calipers with this kit, applied decals and then applied VHT clear coat. Only issue that might come is the product drying out. Paint lasts 2-4 hours max then goes bad. Prep all calipers before mixing. Great results so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great! December 12, 2009

I did a lot of research online about this product and the procedure of doing it yourself. I suggest that anyone considering this DIY project go to youtube and watch several of the "how to" videos detailing the job step-by-step before trying it cold. I finally had to invest in the jack stands and hydraulic jack when I bought the kit (since the job requires the removal of all 4 tires at once). The whole process requires about 6 hours of your day and careful cleaning of the calipers and taping-off of the area around the calipers (so as not to get paint on anything but where you want it). Despite the labor involved, the finished job looks great and has held up well even after 6+ months. They look great, as if they were bought in red brand new. I actually get a lot of people asking me where I bought the calipers and then they are surprised when I tell them I did it myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only paint I will ever use April 29, 2012
Color:Red|Verified Purchase
It took me a few months of reading and watching videos on how to paint my calipers and brake drums on my 2009 Nissan Sentra before I seriously decided to do it. Through my hours of research, the G2 Brake Caliper Paint System Kit kept on showing up and I did even more research. In the end, as you can see, I ending up buying this paint system and I cannot be any happier!

This is what I got in my paint system kit:
1 (14 oz.) aerosol can G2 BRAKE Cleaner Spray,
1 (4 oz.) metal can Brake Caliper Paint,
1 (.5 oz.) glass jar PaintSystem Reactor,
1 stir stick,
1 application brush,
1 color decal,
1 Instruction pamphlet,
1 Helpful hints sheet.

There are a couple of EXTREMELY important things you have to keep in mind while using this paint kit:

1. The date on the bottom of the box is a born on date, it is not an expiration date. The G2 Brake Caliper Paint kit has a shelf life of about 18 months which means the kit is usable up to 18 months from the date marked on the box.

2. The can is only 1/3 full because they wanted a larger can so that there is no spilling after adding the reactor and while painting. It is enough for 2 drum brakes, or 4 calipers.

3. You only have 4-6 hours to paint the brakes and calipers so it is extremely important to PREP ahead of time!!!!

Time: 3+ hours of prep work, 5-6 hours of painting work.

My experience:

Go to your local hardware store and buy one 1/2 inch good quality paint brush and a set of small artist paint brushes (should come in a packet=$1 to $4). The brush that comes with it is not that good. The hairs of the brush fall out easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars This really did a good job for my project November 9, 2014

This really did a good job for my project. I was able to coat 4 calipers very well and I can't wait for these to go back under my truck. Preparation is key but this paint really shines. I included a photo of the finished product. I ended up with 3 coats I believe if you count the little touch ups as you inspect your work.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best DIY solution out there May 31, 2011
By Sean
Color:Red
7/15/14 Update: I've driven 30,000 or so miles since I posted this review. I've been to a track day and parked in the hot Texas sun, many times. There isn't the slightest bit of wear on my calipers. Granted, I clean my car (and calipers) often, but they haven't chipped, faded, or lost their luster...at all. I am very happy with this kit.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I've painted many calipers over the years for both my vehicles and those belonging to friends and family. With anything related to painting, most will agree that PREP IS KEY. With G2, this is no different. I found it odd to brush on, rather than spray, but this is just due to past experiences. In the end, the product works exactly as described, so follow the instructions. The texture will smooth out as it dries and cures. Remember, take the time to prep the calipers correctly!

I used G2 on the calipers of my M3 almost a year ago. After a year of weekly cleanings (mild soap) and a couple of track days, not once has the surface shown signs of wear, discoloration, chipping, or cracking. Honestly, they look great. I am very pleased with this product.
