Here’s the thing – I love non-virginal heroines. I get really sick of virgins or near-virgins or women who just need the love (and tongue) of a good man to break free from their frigidity and love sex. I like a heroine who likes sex. So please don’t think I’m slut-shaming Mac here. I actually love that part of her personality – or, I do right up until she meets Daniel.
Now, don’t worry, she’s not a cheater. BUT, the story is told with a lot of flashbacks. So we’ve got Mac & Daniel having this really great, sweet romance. Mac isn’t into the love thing, but it’s still sweet. But we also get a lot of sexual flashbacks to her previous partners. And while I’m cool within knowing they happened, the explicit details of them makes the book feel like sex-scenes-for-the-sake-of-sex-scenes. You know I love smut, but I didn’t love the way that was done.
And then there’s Mac’s inability to deal with her emotions. Once or twice, I could deal. But that last time? Well, both Daniel and I were pretty peeved. Which brings me to Daniel.
Delicious Daniel is, indeed, delicious. His does this thing where he wants to be everything Mac wants and it’s so hot and sweet at the same time, I love it. But we also get very little info about him. I really would have liked some of his POV, or even some of his history. I just wanted more character development from him.
It’s really not bad for a first book, especially for free. I would not be opposed to reading more of BJ Harvey’s books (including the next in this series) but I do hope to see some growth in the writing as there were definitely some things I didn’t love.

The book starts out interesting. The protagonist escapes from a bad relationship that she entered because of love and despite the warnings of her friends and family. The lesson she learns from this is to avoid love since it can't be trusted. Lust is okay but no love.
Several years later she meets a sexy man, saying all the right things, who wants love and is not interested in sharing her; however, she has three friends with benefits. The plot is predictable but the story contains a lot of gratuitous sex set in flashbacks which don't move the story forward. Also, there is a lot of aggravating repetition in the story.
I found the roommate's story much more interesting.
I struggled to ever like Mac. I didn't understand the refusal to leave the first bf, and I really couldn't go along with that experience making her so scared of relationships; but everyone handles things differently, so I tried to roll with it. She never came across as a truly sweet person though, so I kept feeling the hero was getting shafted. In fact, I thought she came across the way she described Noah.
I didn't really find the humor that funny. It seemed more ditzy humor, I guess, maybe immature. I also struggled with the narration voice and writing style. It's written like Mac is talking to a friend, not bad, but it was overly stream of consciousness for my taste. Add in repetitive phrasing and descriptions, and I had to stop myself from skimming. On top of this there were enough editing/spelling/grammar errors, that I became distracted.
As for the sexy times, they certainly didn't have me squirming or reaching for my husband. However, this may be due to my disconnect with the heroine and writing style. Finally, the ending sealed my rating. I just didn't get it at all. I didn't feel like much character/relationship growth happened in light of all the characters worked through.
Everyone has their preferred writing/narration style and their own sense of humor, so I'm sure there are plenty of fans. For me, I needed more snark and less ditz.

Temporary Bliss was a romantic, funny, dirty, witty book.
Makenna (Mac) 4 years hit rock bottom. She was in a abusive relationship that she finally managed to escape from. When she escaped she promised herself that she would live her own life for her and her alone. She vowed to never let another man control her again and would never let herself get close to another man either. She won't date, doesn't do relationships, all she will do is have no strings attached sex with her 3 friends Zander, Sean and Noah.
Late one night Mac has a chance encounter with Daniel. There's a instant connection between the 2 of them. Mac starts to feel things she hasn't felt in a long time. Will Mac throw her non commitment issues out the window or will she finally learn to open up to another person again and could this person be Daniel?
Mac is a very strong person, witty women who you have to admire. She's been through so much but has still remained as strong as she has. She escaped a very abusive relationship which would of took so much strength and determination and then still managed to rebuild her life and herself back up again.
Daniel is sizzling hot, with a capital S. He's seriously amazing. He's sexy, very confident, charming, understanding and sincere, he's pretty much a perfect man and would make a perfect BBF.
Mac and Daniel have a very intense connection. As soon as they met you could feel the sex tension coming off the pages. Their sexual tension led to some seriously hot sex scenes. There wasn't just sex, there was a lot of very dirty talking between them both too. I found myself blushing on more than one occasion.
You can tell Daniels feeling towards Mac is completely genuine. He truly wants to be with her, he treats her perfectly and unlikely anybody has ever treated Mac before. Daniel is very romantic to Mac and is luckily to of found somebody like him after the rubbish she's been through in the past.
Reading about Macs journey from a scared women to a happy women because of Daniel is lovely. Mac really learns to open up and learns to trust people again. It was nice to see her go on this journey and become a new person.
The story was very fast paced and I enjoyed the story the more and more I got in to the book.
A lovely story that takes you on a beautiful journey.
Mac, vowed to only stick to no strings attached fun following an abusive relationship and four years on she has stick to just that…..till she meets Daniel Winters……..
Daniel is a hot, swoon worthy, sexy specimen of man….. who sneaks his way into Mac’s stone in cased heart without her even realising it…..but as their relationship hots up and starts to become more…. Mac takes off running.
Can Mac open up and a chance on love??

This is an adorable book…..I loved Mac and Daniel, I cannot wait to dive into True Bliss….
