I am that reader that was cheering on Lila and Ethan since they were first introduced in The Secret of Ella and Micha. At the time, they were just the two best friends of Ella and Micha and were from different worlds. You could just see that there was more to their blossoming friendship then friendship. I was so beyond geeked when I heard they were getting their own story. What a story it was!
Once again, Jessica has written a deeply moving story about characters that are more then they first appear. Both Lila and Ethan have grown up in less then ideal circumstances and each of them dealt with it in very different ways. Watching them grow to trust each other and watching their past unfold as their story was shared made this book unputtdownable for me. While I really think I enjoyed this story more because I had "known" them for a few books, this could easily be a stand alone read. Unlike some of Jessica's books, this does not end in an evil cliffhanger, so no worries there. It does have a a slight cliffhanger if you read past the story, but if you have will power and do not read the sneak, all should be good :).

In Ella and Micha's first book, and even in the second, the author did a good job about making me want to read more about what was going on between Lila and Ethan. She dropped hints making us think there might be something going on between them, the chemistry was there and I was really looking forward to reading their book and seeing more of their story unfold. But then the book came out and I just felt like something was missing. That spark that captures you and connects you to the characters wasn't there. I feel that most of her books have the same sad background that set up the story-line, I would have liked it if she would have taken a different direction with this book. If you don't want spoilers... STOP READING HERE!!!..... Lila was raped, lets call it what it is. A 14 year old cannot make a reasonable conscious decision to have sex with a 22 year old. And how this creep was never arrested or faced any repercussions after what he did, is beyond me. No matter how screwed up a parent is, I don't believe for one minute that they wouldn't want to protect their child. This was one of the factors that made this book not so believable. Lila's promiscuous behavior or her drug abuse problem were never addressed or at least hinted, so when I read it, it was hard for me to really connect with her or feel sorry for her. Another factor was the connection between Ethan and London, no one knew about her. There were no hints of her in the first two books and if Ethan and Micha where such good friends, how was it that it said in the book that no one knew about her? I felt a little more connected to his character and I understand needing to let go of an old love before moving forward in life.

There were a few things that irked me while reading this book. One of them was the editing.

Love the characters in this series!! We first meet Lila and Ethan in the Secret and the Forever of Ella and Micha. They are the best friends of Micha and Ella and when they meet, they also become friends but nothing more. Ella and Micha leave for California and Ethan and Lila are left in Vegas.
**SPOILER** When meeting them in previous books, you don't realize they both have a messed up past. Ethan trys hard to recover from his past but Lila is on a downward spiral. Addicted to perscrition drugs, turning to sex to dull her pain, being shut off from her parents and money, she turns to Ethan. Ethan saves her from self destruction and she helps Ethan say good bye to part of his past. They are great together and I was so happy when they finally took the next step.
We get to see more of Micha and Ella too in this book and I was glad to see another book will becoming out for them, since the ending didn't go as planned. I am hoping for another book with Lila and Ethan, great characters and great series!!

FIVE stars

Jessica Sorensen is a master at creating broken characters, struggling with addiction and abuse, drawing us into their world, and making us fall in love with them. The Temptation of Lila and Ethan is the third installment in the Secret of Ella and Micha series, but in this book we take a break from Ella and Micha's story to get caught up with Lila and Ethan. Micha and Ella play minor rolls in this book, as this story is all for Lila and Ethan. And dare I say it, this might be my favorite Jessica Sorensen book to date!

The dynamic between Lila and Ethan is perfect, in my opinion. For myself, as a reader, if I could handpick all of the different components to make up the perfect storyline, the perfect characters the perfect relationship, it would be all the things that Jessica Sorensen crafted together to create the story of Lila and Ethan. They are both damaged in terrible ways. Their families, years of abuse and neglect, their respective addictions, and their histories of what they believed was love in past relationships all come together and erupt into this explosive, life altering would-be relationship. They have been friends for some time, in a purely platonic nature, but seem to always be what the other needs. It's almost the classic case of what you really want being right under your nose. Except these character's problems take the forefront of their lives, and of this story, making a happy ending seem impossible. But love blooming from friendship is one of my favorite themes in stories and this author created a masterpiece out of this one. Magnets pushing and pulling, these two people are never quite on the same page.... which of course leads to an angsty heart-wrenching story full of sexual tension and romance. But it's funny and sweet at the same time.
