Tracey, Life Reads With Friends
This is probably one of the most body positive romances I've ever read. As a curvy person, I related a lot to Daphne's insecurities. In fact, a lot of the things that she says could be taken from my own life. I too, have struggled with wearing certain items in public. Shopping for bathing suits (or just any clothing in general) is a struggle for me. Also, if I made an overly romantic overture to someone, I'd probably blush with embarrassment too.
Also, I'm a huge sucker for stories involving cute kids, so I really enjoyed reading about Daphne's adorable toddler and her love for "Dock".
The only tiny criticism I have about this book is that there's a lot of world building going on. The book starts out in Bayside, so you have all the characters and storylines from that series, but it moves away from Bayside to Silver Island about halfway through the story. Because it's the first book in the series, there's a lot of introductions to the residents of Silver Island and explanations about who is related to whom and what group of friends they belong to. It can be a lot to take in at once, but I'm sure I'll get everyone straight by the next book.
However, don't let any of that distract you from enjoying this story. Daphne and Jock have a lot of adorable scenes together. Normally I detest having a bunch of supporting characters in a romance novel because I feel like I don't really get to read about the couple alone together, but this book gave me plenty of heartwarming and tender moments (as well as some really steamy ones). I was invested in their romance and was glad to see them reach their happy ending. Also, I kind of want to live on Silver Island now.
I love the relationship Daphne and Jock build once Jock makes up his mind to work on his issues. But I even loved them both before that. The horror Jock felt at possibly hurting Daphne or her daughter Hadley squeezed my heart. And that mama bear inside of Daphne was so true and real.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this story was getting to know Jock’s family better. I can’t wait to see where things go for his siblings, especially Archer. I’m excited about the citizens of Silver Island and where this locale can be blended into so many future Love in Bloom stories.
Of course, I love all of Daphne’s friends, but they would sometimes upset me when they didn’t see how much she was being held back. I understood their reasons for not wanting to expand. They have found their HEAs and want time with their families, not more time working. But nobody seemed to realize what it meant to her and offer to help her come up with some other ideas to stretch her mental muscles and find fulfillment. It was a joy to see Daphne find the courage to go for what she wants, in many different ways. As the story progressed, she found more and more confidence and learned to speak up. Part of that was unlearning things that she learned in her first marriage to a man who never helped to build her up. I was cheering for her throughout and so happy to watch her growth.
Another winner from Melissa Foster.

Single mother Daphne and her daughter live on Cape Cod where Daphne works at a resort. Jock Steele is a man with a troubled past, but Daphne’s two-year-old daughter Hadley adores him. However, Jock freezes whenever Hadley approaches him. It’s not just Hadley, it’s any young child, including his own niece. A traumatic past has Jock’s emotions locked down tightly, but he can’t stop thinking about Daphne - but if he wants her in his life, he must overcome his fear of his past.
This book has two lovely settings, Cape Cod and Silver Island. The characters joke about getting island fever and not wanting to leave but it sounded an idyllic place to live. The romance between Jock and Daphne is intense while Hadley’s role is very sweet. I liked how she called him Dock because she couldn’t pronounce J.
Jock’s backstory has some very sad moments, but it also has hope and I thought the way that he worked through his issues was very inspiring. I also enjoyed meeting lots of other members of the Steele family and I can image that they will all be wanting to tell us their own romantic stories in the near future.
