Lauren has created an exquisitely unique love triangle. Gemma believes she loves James yet doesn’t realize she really is in love with Jasper. James the cad wants nothing to do with her leaving Jasper to do his dirty work. Jasper clearly the rogue, but is determined to win the lady’s heart. The characters are powerful clearly ones you will love to hate with James and Jasper or find hilariously funny with Lady Greenley. Rich, detailed storyline, though short, is easy to be caught up in. Not really a chosen genre for me, but enjoyably well written. Will Jasper win Gemma’s love? “Tempted By A Rogue” is destined to be a sensational hit novel.
The story's setting is Midhurst, West Sussex in 1817 where two of the town's resident sons, James Randolph and Jasper Holland having left in their early teens, are returning from eleven years' service together throughout the world in the Royal Navy. Gemma Haverford, after having been wooed by letter all of these years, is expecting to marry James. Unfortunately, James had become disenchanted and asked Jason to write and dissolve the supposed betrothal. Jason, having had some interest in Gemma when they were still youngsters, writes but procrastinates with `breaking off' the relationship. Instead, he continues to write and discovers Gemma's letters to be most intelligent, charming and in accord with his likes and dislikes. Because James has found someone new he wants to marry and has been informed of Jasper's lack of compliance with his request, insists that Jasper compromise Gemma so he will have a sound reason for disengaging from the unwanted relationship. Jasper attempts the seduction, finds himself completely enamored of the young woman, and the ensuing activities provide a charming, titillating tale of unleashed desire complicated by the mental struggle involving the apparent accompanying deceit, deception and betrayal.
The author has managed most adroitly to set forth, and stretch, a relatively simple plot into an extended delightful interlude that romance devotees should find irresistible.
Jasper...even though I understood why he deceived Gemma he was wrong to cover up for James. I love that he fell in love with Gemma yet didn't even realize he did.
Gemma, wow writing to a man for 11 years, saving herself for his return, but what happened when James and Jasper come home was heartbreaking to say the least. Who will Gemma end up with?
A story that will make you laugh and cry and root for the underdog. You really must get this book and read it for yourself.
He was to return to his long journey at sea. Having exchanged letters for many years, Gemma thought there were no secrets between them.
Would it be true?
The problem was that during the last 10 years, Gemma didn't exchange letters with James, but with Jasper Holland, James' best friend.
Jasper and Gemma knew each other, but they were never considered friends. Gemma thought he only tolerated her because of James. Jasper was always ready to torment her.
But now, after so many letters, he was unfailingly love with her, but she only had eyes for James. And worse, James was to be betrothed with Arabella Stevens, and needed Gemma out of his way.
The solution was to make a plan so he could finish the commitment they had.
And though Jasper wants Gemma free, he didn't want to hurt her.
But after compromise her, the next day, at a Garden Party, the two have some scores to settle, and sure enough, some of these adjustments would be the most delicious she already tasted...
With few pages, Lauren Smith brings a good story to read.
It could have many more pages and more confusion, too bad everything happens very quickly.
This romantic story is about Gemma, a beautiful woman who has had a secret relationship with a man for more than 10 years. However, there's a little detail- the relationship has always been with letters. They've been writing to each others for a decade now and Gemma finds herself completely exited when she hears that her sweetheart is coming home after so long. The sad side of this is that James, the man she has loved for many years, is not who she think he is. His name isn't even James, but Jasper. What happened is that Jasper stared writing to her as a favour to his friend James, and never thought that what started as a naive plan would developed as a big problem, because he fell in love with Gemma.
I really liked the story because the author managed to create a simple yet highly attractive plot. Also, of course I love romance story. My thumbs up!
