There's so much I want to say, but at the same time so little because any detail will give away the beauty behind this heartbreaking story.
All I know is that my heart fell in love with Everett and Parker. Both were lost souls that found each other when they needed it the most. They became each other's strength, and Everett showed Parker how to live while Parker showed Everett how to fight.
Be prepared to embark on a journey of self discovery, acceptance and overall healing. You learn and grow alongside these wonderful characters. It was one of those stories that will have you feeling so many emotions and at times you become frustrated. Whitney! How dare you put water in my eyes! Thank you for this beautiful story of learning to live and showing us how powerful love can be.
The only problem I had with this book, and it's a big one, is that the editing just kind of petered out midway through the book. The first half only had a few errors, but the last half had multiple. Per page. It started to detract from the beautiful story and at that point, I began to actually get pissed off. I was pissed off because this book is phenomenal. Seriously, it is by far my favorite book of the year, and will probably have no problems remaining in that spot. This story is so gut-wrenching, so touching, so powerful. It needs to be devoured by everyone I know.
I hate that I can't give it 5 stars, but with so many editing errors, I just can't give it that last star. On the story and content, it's a 10. I love it that much. I only hope that the author will seek out experienced beta readers and a good editor for any future books. I will most definitely be following the author and cannot wait to see the progress.
Parker Sloane may be alive, but she’s not exactly living. After a horrendous attack left her scarred – both mentally and physically – she’s perfectly content observing others in their day to day operations. She doesn't feel and she doesn't care. She’s just numb. Until him …
Everett O’Callaghan may be dying, but he’s determined to make the most out of life. When he meets Parker, he doesn't understand how someone with so much life can actually live so little. He makes it his mission to break her. To tear down her walls and force her to feel - even if it’s the last thing he does.
Oh boy, I’m just going to start with Parker. She was infuriating, indifferent and a liar. She’s someone I would normally hate, but I just couldn't do that here. I sympathized with her. I kept trying to put myself in her shoes, and I understood why she was so closed off. So guarded. She didn't have a stable home growing up. She didn't have close ties to people. Then she went through a traumatic experience and she broke. Who could blame her?
Everett was moody, rude, blunt, and the most honest character I’ve seen in a while. I loved that he made no apologies for his behavior. When you’re dying, who really has the time or the desire to beat around the bush? And I can’t say that I blame him for the decisions he made because I’ve often wondered what I would do in situations such as that.
It was a beautiful thing to sit back and watch while these two broken people helped to slowly heal one another. I have so many quotes and pages that are highlighted because the dialogue packed a punch. It made me feel.
This was my first book by Whitney and I can honestly say that after reading this lovely story, I went out and bought her other two books as well. She has a gift for storytelling and I can’t wait to see what journey she takes me on next.
Overall, I’d have to give Ten Below Zero 5 giant gold stars. This is one hell of a touching story. I absolutely LOVED it, and highly recommend that you get your one-click on. Seriously. Do it. I promise that you won’t regret it.
I almost stopped reading this book a few times. There was too much running away and rude comments between Parker and Everett. But then there was a shocking revelation about one of the characters and then I slowly started to like the story. I really liked what happened next and what Parker and Everett did. I needed to know how Ten Below Zero was going to end.
There was always some connection and some understanding between Parker and Everett. They are not really living or enjoying life. Something horrible happened to Parker and this still affects her life. Parker is lonely, smart, honest, feisty and closed off. She doesn’t realize how strong she is nor that she’s a fighter. Everett is going through a difficult time. I’m glad that Parker and Everett found each other and that they will be happy again at the end.
