The storyline is cute and builds character which teaches children to be grateful, show appreciation, say thank you, be kind to older people like a grandmother, if you use something like paper and stamps be sure and pay it back, and learn to write thank you letters. Children as young as four could enjoy this story. If you read it to a classroom, a fun exercise is to write a thank you letter and perhaps mail it to someone (with the parents' permission - you would need addresses etc.) The accompanying illustrations are colorful and appealing. This story would be a happy addition to a classroom unit on letter writing. Love that it combines wonderful character building around a skill and a cute story.
The illustrations are made from ink-on-paper and painted plywood panels that are perfected in Photoshop. This is a unique illustrative style and very textured. The colors are very vibrant and the pictures are very kid friendly.
Although the language doesn't always flow as well as I would like, I give this story 5 stars for setting a wonderful example of why and how to write thank you letters. This is an often forgotten point of etiquette. The book is advertized for ages 5-8 which is perfect.
