No problem for an Xbox or Cable Box - multiple audio outputs to choose from. But for a small streaming box like a Roku, with no audio output, this becomes a problem.
Hook up this magic Tendak box, and now I can run audio out through my sound bar, even if the device only has HDMI out. Thank you!
The unit is well built of metal and has a quality feel to it.
Note: I was concerned about the audio level coming out of the 3.5mm plug for my headphones. It was adequate but could use a boost. The BT headphones have a volume control which helps.
Be aware that this is a powered device. Thankfully it uses a standard micro USB cable and draws very little power. I was able to power it from a USB port on the Nintendo Switch dock.

For *MY* situation, I ran a 2' HDMI cable from the PS4 to the Tendal. The Tendal has an output slot for HDMI and for a digital optical cable. I ran my regular HDMI cable from the Tendal output to the TV which of course ran the video. I ran the digital optical cable from the Tendal output to my surround sound receiver and Voila! I was back to having the PS4 audio play through the surround sound system.
So, I was looking around for a solution. A friend who was in the AV biz told me to split the HDMI line. That's how I found this product. Didnt' really know if it would work, but worth a try. I paired this with Amazonbasics 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable so it connects to my speakers. This worked great. It's been a few days so far, but so far so good. I did't get to use optical audio
I have an old receiver and an old TV in my Bedroom because - hey - it still works and it's still decent stuff. But the problem was that I could not connect newer devices that carry sound over the HDMI cable. Enter this wonderful piece of tech - it separates the audio channel for output via Toslink/optical which allows my receiver to receive and output the sound. Wonderful. It works. No BS.
What was really nice was the ability to force it into 2 channel mode. It worked in 5.1 but because my receiver doesn't seem to be able to process 5.1 to power the sub with the data it received, the subwoofer stayed quiet because the FireTV wasn't sending any discrete subwoofer data. But setting it to 2 channel mode allowed my receiver, which can process stereo signals, to use my subwoofer. this scenario may not come up for anyone else but in my particular situation, the 2 channel mode was what i needed - and, i suspect that it might help others who need 2 channel data for various other reasons. Really old receivers might not support Dolby Digital, etc.
Bottom line - i have good picture and audio through this device. No glitches. It works great - didn't need the manual to figure it out...what more can i say? Well worth the price. Excellent value.

I'm using it to use get Airplay 2 digital audio out of an Apple TV, without using a TV. It's perfect for this purpose.
Used to extract 2 Channel Audio from a HDMI Signal originating from my son's NUC computer and it works very well!!
Adequate power is provisioned from the HDMI Port without the need for a separate power lead from a USB Port - Also a plus.
Recommend if you want to use with chromecast 👍👌
It works as expected.
