By Kevin Vost, Shane Kapler and Peggy Bowes
I have long believed in a mind/spirit/body connection. As I talk about in my own book (on stress) I feel strongly that a multi-level approach is more advantageous to our well being than one that focuses on only one element of who we are. In Tending the Temple, Kevin Vost (Fit for Eternal Life), Shane Kapler (The God who is Love) and Peggy Bowes (The Rosary Workout), have combined their unique talents to create a devotional that works with this approach.
Kevin's talents as an author and psychologist are put into effective use in these beautiful and inspiring daily devotions. Peggy adds her experience as a fitness instructor and Shane carries with him the experience of walking the walk. Mix it all together and BAM you have a devotional that really packs a strong physical, mental, and spiritual punch.
The daily devotions are easy to read and the exercises at the end of each page are clear and simple to follow. I was thrilled to read the examples of the Saints and enjoyed how the authors intertwined the particular Saint of the day's virtues with practical ideas for our own well-being. I would say that this book is a page turner, but part of the challenge is that it is meant to be read one-day-at-a-time! Personally, I couldn't wait to see what the next day would hold.
As an added bonus, two of my favorite authors, Lisa Mladinich and Theresa Doyle-Nelson also contributed to this book.
I would highly recommend Tending the Temple to anyone seeking to improve their understanding of the Saints, the Catholic Faith and/or wanting to grow in their mental and physical well-being.

Being a personal trainer myself, I was preparing for a women's night out function at a local church and thought it would be great to have a copy of this book on hand for women interested in not only physical fitness but spiritual fitness, so I ordered the book. It was a hit at the function.
I pray as soon as I get up. I have added this book to my daily devotionals. It is my spiritual workout and gets me ready for what I do next, my physical workout.
I love the quotes from scripture and the saints. I often share them on Facebook and with friends to help motivate them both in their spiritual and physical journeys.

This book is a devotional for body, mind and spirit. Christ stated that he came that we might have life and have it abundantly. I have always believed that God wants us to be whole - of sound body, sound mind and sound spirit. I personally, after 10 years in Campus ministry as a student, volunteer and staff, found that too many people, too many ministries and too many churches only focus on the spirit or spirit and mind, and let the body slide. This book is intended to help bring about a more balanced approach to life.
Each day we have a quote from the bible and/or a Saint of the church, a reflection and an exercise. This book was amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to grown in one of those three areas and especially for those who seek balance in their life. There is much in this book we can apply to our personal life and I know that with each rereading, new things and new practices will come up and as we grow, a deeper level of devotion. Awesome book. Thanks Kevin, Shane and Peggy.
