They take some patience and skill to fly without crashing. They are durable and I crashed them a lot when learning to fly them. If you pop off a propeller when you crash you need to slow down until you learn how to fly them better. The props pop back on easily.
Pro: Not too hard to learn. Extremely agile. I can fly them between banister posts and land them on a 5 in x 5 in box. Very fast and powerful on levels 2 and 3. Only fly at those levels outdoors! Really bright lights all around and a cool light inside the nose really help with determining orientation.
Con: Only does the 360 flip on level 3 and you have to jerk the stick the opposite direction then quickly jerk it the flip direction ... Difficult to master and my worst crashes have occured on the flip.
Compared to Proto X: I love both models. Proto X has lots of power and agility but the Q4 has more but you will only realize this if you are an expert. The Proto X flips on all 3 speeds. When you put it into the flip mode it rapidly beeps until the flip is performed. Proto X is your better choice for flips. My proto X charges a good 15 minutes faster. Proto X is $8 more than Q4. You can use the Proto X controller on the q4 and vice versa but I suggest not because the flip does not work.
I recommend them both. If I could only afford one I would pay a little more and get Proto X.
Note propellers are interchangeable. I dont recommend the prop guards that pop on over the motor mounts. I bought some and when they did not easily clear the motor wires and snap into place I did not force them for fear of damaging the wires.
I really enjoy flying the q4 and recommend it highly.
I am convinced you can not destroy this little thing, I even stepped on it and bent the main board and it still works perfectly, it also does not take long to charge before you can fly it again.
Cons: None except I want 10 more!
The solder connections of the wires connecting the motors to power are pretty fragile. I have had to redue several of them on my boy's quad. I have finally started putting a dab of hot glue on to keep the wire from wiggleing around in hopes of making them a little more sturdy.
The durability leaves a bit to be desired. If you buy this, also order extra propellers. The props are the biggest nuisance with this quad- they fly off and bend very easily. Given this thing's performance, this will happen often. I find I frequently spend more time looking for where the darn props went than actually flying it.
Do yourself a favor, buy a Hubsan and leave the copies alone.
