This is an insightful book that investors should read closely and then review on a regular basis. It is an invaluable resource."

From the Author
Grayson D. Roze has worked in the financial services industry for StockCharts.com since 2012. He now serves as a Business Manager at the company. Grayson holds a Bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College, where he studied Economics and Psychology. At a young age, he began pursuing his interest in the financial markets by attending investment classes and starting to trade under the guidance of his father. At the age of 18, Grayson began investing his own account and has since become an accomplished trader in his own right. He speaks regularly at various investment seminars, including to organizations such as the Market Technicians Association (MTA), the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) and Bellevue College. The Tensile Trading book was his vision as a vehicle to lay out his father's investment wisdom and convey it to a wider audience.

The book provides a comprehensive strategic ten stage roadmap of investing that is dubbed the “Tensile Trading” method. This method has been used by Gatis for over 25 years. One chapter is devoted to each of these stages. At the end of each chapter there is a bullet point summary of the key points presented.
The advice and investing approach presented in the book is presented in an unfiltered and brutally honest manner from the standpoint of two independent investors. The authors strive to help investors increase the odds of making consistent profits in the market by using their 10-step methodology. They believe that the key to successful investing is good preparation before the first trade is made.
They believe in listening to what it is communicating, as well as setting appropriate stops to limit risk. They also believe that the four key elements of profitable trading consist of planning, using a trading system, executing properly, and following their beliefs. Also, maintaining a trading journal is crucial. In additions, investors need to determine the correlation coefficient between each of their holdings to determine their level of diversification.
The authors have found that investing in the strongest industries and sectors works out well, instead of investing in individual stocks. Investors should find out what is performing best and invest in it, such as ETF sector funds. Using technical analysis tools is clearly the basis for their methodology. Many of the tools are available at no charge on[...]which they are both affiliated with in different capacities. Also, they indicate that combining fundamental and technical analysis provides immense value.
According to the author, being a successful investor requires that each investor minimize the number of failures by addressing their weaknesses, optimizing their available time and efficiency to achieve maximum results, and lastly replicate successful trades over and over again.
This book is handsomely done with color charts and figures, and an easy- to-read font size. A companion website is also provided by the authors with links and helpful resources. Overall, this book provides readers with a well-thought out and clearly explained systematic investing approach that will help improve investing results for those who apply its principles.
I have read it a few times, and on every read I am amazed to find subtle yet very important points which could improve my trading skills.
Some of key chapters to me are: Asset Allocation, Market Analysis, Sister Strategy, Selling. I have read these chapters multiple times.
I feel this book has made many of the key factors of successful trading into tangible actionable items.
To conclude all I can say is: I could write a lot more about the book but it would never end... :)
I am a amply experienced trader so I did not learn a lot of new information about markets but I absolutely loved the framework that was presented. It is sort of like looking over the shoulder of a seasoned practitioner to see how you can improve your own process. I would pass this book along to novice and veteran alike.
This book and the investing discipline and methodology presented can help you get a few things right in your investments, and most importantly, avoid getting too may things wrong. The authors do a great job combining proven investment techniques with new web based tools. Very readable, well written and the illustrations are invaluable!
