Technical Details

Product Description

Tequila is made from distilled sap from hearts (pi as) of the agave or maguey (pr. 'mah-gay') plant. This plant is actually related to the lily and amaryllis (it has its own genus, Agave). It is known as a succulent and, although it shares a common habitat with many cacti, it is not one itself and has a different life cycle. A mature agave has leaves 5-8 feet tall, and is 7-12 feet in diameter. The name agave comes from the Greek word for 'noble.' There are 136 species of agave in Mexico, of which the blue agave - agave tequilana weber azul - is the only one allowed for use in tequila production. Several different species of agave are allowed for use in mezcal, including a rare wild species, tobala. Other agave plants are used for the production of various regional drinks like sotol, raicilla, bacanora and pulque. Agave has been cultivated on this continent for at least 9,000 years. Cacti & Succulent Care: Many people tend to think that cacti and succulents are too difficult to care for and decide against even buying them. As it turns out, many people are simply caring for them too much or too often. Cacti and succulents will do quite well under the same conditions which would be considered neglect with other plants. -Watering- The most common problem people have with cacti and succulent plants is overwatering. They are 'water storing' plants and will do better with less water than they will with more. Since every situation is considerably different, there is not set time interval for when to water cacti and succulents. Many factors play a role in the timing (such as humidity, light, and temperature). Cacti and succulent plants can survive a wide range of temperatures, but it is preferable that they are kept in a warm bright location for the best results, and the most beautiful color.

Product arrived in good condition and very well packed. Does come potted as noted in a 4" clay bit with soil and tiny rocks.

Only giving it 4 stars as it doesn't look as healthy at the one advertised in the pictures.

Came in good shape and healthy, already potted so didn't stick myself to badly. Going to be great when I transplant it. Can't give much of a review as I haven't had it but a couple days. Would have been nice if they would have included some kind of care pamphlet with it to insure it's longevity.

Just as advertised with timely delivery. I was a little concerned about having a plant shipped across country but it arrived without issue. It has been growing well for about 1 month. I think it is happy with the new home.

As I stated in the title, the plant arrived in decent shape, although certainly with less growth than as pictured.

What bugs me is that the Agave was bare root, wrapped up in some wet newspaper & plastic wrap... not potted, which is how it is advertised. I consider this misleading.

I'm not sure if this is just a singular instance, or if this is how all plants are shipped. Please be aware though that most likely your plant will be shipped bare root.

On a positive note, very prompt shipping.

I have not always had good experiences ordering plants from Amazon, but this plant arrived quickly, well packaged and in excellent health. It already had a couple babies growing out from under it! Very nice plant, I do recommend it.

I'm quite pleased with the plant. It's healthy and has good roots. It shipped promptly, came in a nice terracotta pot. I give the plant and pot a 5 star rating.

However, the way it was shipped leaves something to be desired. It was packaged nicely, there was plastic around the top of the pot to keep dirt in, it was all wrapped in bubble wrap, and the rest of the space was filled with packing peanuts. That's all well and good, but the way the box was shipped had the plant on it's side. This, of course, caused most of the dirt to come out of the pot, making the little plastic wrap moot and opening the bubble wrap basically caused a flurry of dirty dust to go everywhere (This is the exact reason I opened the box outside). Having been shipped on it's side did cause some damage to a couple of the leaves that it was laying on, but that's mostly superficial, with a couple broken spines and some little wounds caused by the rocks in the dirt. This is why I'm only giving 4 stars. With all the care that went into packing the plant, one would think they'd take the time ti ship it upright, even if that means tipping the box on it's side so the right end of the plant is up, or using a larger box (Even though that would cost more.)

So over all, 5 star plant, but sub par shipping.
