I am not using this mortar and pestle the way that most people would use them. I was searching for something that I could use to crush the hard lumps that form in my large containers of coconut palm sugar. The sugar is unprocessed and all natural, so large lumps, sometimes as big as rocks, form in the containers. I had already tried a potato masher, but I didn't like the results that I got from using it, so I decided to try this item. I figured that if it could crush hard pills, then it could crush my coconut palm sugar lumps!

This set is really nice. The stainless steel is of very good quality. Both pieces have some weight to them. The pestle is strong and heavy. Once I got the hang of it, turning it back and forth over the large lumps, it worked beautifully. It totally flattened the lumps and made them disappear without any effort at all. Just a quick rinse under the faucet and it was clean. I really like this set.

If you read no further, I can honestly say to buy this Tera 18/8 Stainless Steel Mortar and Pestle.

After suffering so many years with chunky marinades and lumpy spice mixtures, I read about a mortar and pestle being suggested on a cooking forum. After reading numerous Amazon reviews, I decided on this stainless steal model instead of the stone ones. There is no grit or residue with stainless steel vs stone.

This mortar and pestle has a heavy base with a rubberish-ring bottom that keeps it from sliding around while using. This rubber may not last as long as the unit itself, but it works for now. The base is heavy enough to hold it down on its own.

Never having used a mortar and pestle before, I was expecting loud noises while grinding. To my surprise, swirling the pestle in a circular motion is ghostly silent. I guess if you hack and chop it might make noise, but the slow and steady circular motion makes quick work of most anything you need ground down.

Thus far, I have ground down rosemary to a fine powder instead of the "stems" that you normally deal with. Also, if you have any garlic or onion powders that have developed clumps due to humidity, toss the chunks in the mortar and pestle. In a few quick swirls of the pestle, everything is a smooth again.

Cilantro, parsley, and basil grind down perfectly to a dust if you want it that way. Larger salts, such as Himalayan pink, result in a fine powder.

The above are just what I have done in the day I have used the Tera Mortar and Pestle. I expect many years of finding new uses for this product.

Kitchen necessity!

This is an extremely durable mortar and pestle. It works well at grinding meat and solid food into soft and chunky baby food, it doesn’t puree the meat but grinds it into a safe texture for toddlers.

We’ve had this mortar and pestle for a frw months and use it nearly every day to grind meat, veggies and butter together for our toddler daughter’s meals.

This set is very heavy and is not safe to have within reach of little ones. It is extremely easy to clean, and appears to be well made. I highly recommend this product .

This isn't necessarily a bad product, but it's definitely over-marketing itself and it's not really a food grinder. I was led to believe from a couple of reviews that this could handle spices, and I should have known better.

What this handles well is dried green spices such as thyme and rosemary and rock-like substances such as salts. I think this is MAINLY designed for medicine pills. I popped a few tylenol pills in for the sake of this review and yes it does do those very well and very quickly. I didn't try fresh greens, but I highly suspect that it works well for crushing fresh green leaves.

It doesn't do well on other food. What I really wanted was something that can Indian spices, especially seeds (coriander seeds, black peppercorns, etc.) into powder and something that can make ginger and garlic paste. It can crush garlic and ginger, but it struggles to make a paste because the surface is too smooth. The food slides around rather than getting trapped in the grind, and there isn't a lot of grinding done even when you get it between the two pieces because of that same smooth surface. The pestle head is also much too small compared to the mortal as well. Seeds are worse. I can crush them, but even that is difficult (slippery, seeds jump out, takes a strong, direct blow with the small pestle head) and I can't get them anywhere near a powder. I also found that the efficiency quickly diminished further by adding more spices. Crushing anything is made much more difficult if there is more than a few seeds in the mortar.

I wouldn't recommend it at all for food--there's too many better materials, but I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to people needing to crush medicine. Unfortunately this has been a waste if money for me.

This is a gem. It does a great job of grinding up 12 pills 2x a day for my horse with metabolic issues. When I used a meat mallet I still had small bits of pill that my TWH could taste and so he would spit out that bite. No longer! This mortar and pestle does the trick. Powder fine and so sturdy. It has a nice solid heavy base that keeps it in place as I mash. I would highly recommend if you need to crush pills.

Estamos muy contentos con el mortero, el palo es de metal así que podemos ejercer más fuerza que el que teníamos que es de madera. Y además cómo el cuenco también es de acero, si se nos cae no se romperá. Un 10 en resistencia. Aunque el tapa de plástico no es gran cosa (por cierto, vienen 2 tapas, al menos en el mío) pero como es de regalo..., a caballo regalado, no le mires el diente. Lo que pasa con las tapas es que si lo usas sientes que no tienes suficiente espacio para hacer el golpe, pero si no lo usas, se te salen todo por todas partes (así que supongo que algo de utilidad tiene). Yo en mi caso estaba golpeando algo muy muy duro, en tu caso puede que no se dé ese problema. Dale al botón si te ha sido útil. Quiero averiguar si solo estoy perdiendo el tiempo o hay gente leyendo esto. JAJAJAJA.

Man liest häufig, dass für einen Mörser Stein bevorzugt wird. Aus Rezensionen geht hervor, dass dies allerdings nicht immer ein Vorteil ist. Sei es der zerbrochene Mörser-Stab oder Reste von vorherigen Produkten im Stein selbst (aufgrund feiner Vertiefungen), welche sich nicht einfach entfernen lassen. Ebenso liest man, dass Stein anfällig gegenüber sauren Produkten sei.
Nun stellt sich die Frage, warum sollte man diese vielen Probleme mitkaufen, wenn es einen Mörser aus Edelstahl gibt, welcher auch noch rostfrei nach der Benutzung bleiben soll. Dieses Argument und der gute Preis haben mich vom Mörser von Tera überzeugen können.
Das Produkt kam gut verpackt an und wies keinerlei Mängel auf. Einzig die Plastikabdeckung hat ein Fingernagel ähnliches Loch gehabt, was mich zunächst etwas überraschte, da dies doch recht auffällig war und nicht so als "Neu" verkauft und versandt werden sollte. Nun war ich gewillt über diese Beschädigung der Abdeckung hinwegzusehen, da ich diese eigentlich nicht benötige und andere Mörser diese auch nicht enthalten.
Etwas skeptisch ging ich an den Test des Mörser heran und habe versucht Kritik anderer Rezensenten nachzuvollziehen, welche beschrieben haben, dass der Mörser etwas unhantlich bei der Verwendung sei. Persönlich kann ich das nicht nachvollziehen. Sowohl Mörser als auch Stößel haben ein gutes Gewicht und liegen gut in der Hand. Die Größe ist vollkommen ausreichend. Der Edelstahl wurde auch bei harten Zutaten, wie ganzen Pfefferkörnern, nicht beschädigt. Die Beschichtung hat sich nicht abgelöst. Die Reinigung verlief problemlos. Der Mörser hat eine Gummierung am Boden, welche ihn fixiert bei der Verwendung. Auch nach der Reinigung mit Wasser bleibt diese Eigenschaft erhalten.
Mein erster Eindruck des Mörsers ist tadellos und geäußerte Kritikpunkte konnte ich nicht bestätigen. Lediglich die langfristige Rostfreiheit kann ich, aufgrund des kurzen Testzeitraums, bisher nicht bestätigen.
