This author has had several Audio Dramas recorded and broadcast by Irish National Radio Station - RTE 1.
Asking himself the question "What if a foetus could think and talk" led to TERMINATION, which follows the journey of IT from conception to abortion. RTE accepted the script and commissioned a production directed by Senior Producer Daniel Reardon. The quality of the production was truly astonishing. The production was listed for broadcast but was suppressed from broadcast without explanation. With the script now available, readers can make their own judgments.

I didn't want to read it but...

I have read a lot of creative reflections on pregnancy and abortion over the years, including songs, poems and short sketches, few of which have 'hit the mark' emotionally, so I was a little wary of this short radio play. Contrary to my expectations, 'Termination' is skilfully and sensitively written, avoiding the tendency to ignore either mother or baby by switching between the mother and the baby's perspectives throughout. It also avoids any sentimentality by having the pre-natal development side described as though the womb were a machine (this doesn't sound very good in the telling, but if you imagine a voice-over describing different parts of the process and also the abortion, culminating in the sound of alarms shrieking, it manages to convey the panic and horror without being ghoulish or maudlin). Obviously radio scripts are meant to be heard not read so one has to allow for the technical language of scriptwriting (off-mic, FX etc) but I can imagine some of the scenes being incredibly powerful.
