Top customer reviews
It's slow moving, not built for speed. It turns 90 degrees at a time, flips one axel forward the other backward. It flops itself along dragging the scorpion like tail, making a loud "rrrnnnyarr" sound. It's chunky, clunky and moves as strangely as it looks. It's made of plastic and quickly showed wear. Just one outside adventure and it had dings, dents and scratches from the rocks and concrete. (Polyurethane or hardened rubber...either would be a better choice for a toy built to climb on/over stuff.)
It comes with quick charge 9.6v battery pack which is a plus. The handheld remote control is made of thin, light weight plastic with a matching green/orange color scheme. Operation is simple: two orange thumb pads - left button to move left side tires, right button moves the right side. It's a good size for the targeted age group, 8+. (With such simple controls- younger kids can easily operate the Terra Climber.) The length is a tad smaller than a dollar bill. (I've attached photos.) The remote requires 2AA batteries and there Is an on/off switch on the back.
It climbs, crawls over rocks, sticks, etc., and is good at knocking down block structures set up to "destroy." My granddaughter would spend half an hour constructing "towns" complete with small plastic figurines (i.e. Scooby-Doo Gang & lots of dinos), just to knock 'em down and climb over the wreckage. This game was more fun outside. Inside the "Climber" seems confused by walls and other immovable objects. It tries to climb them and if you can't get it turned around, it will sit and "rrrrannnyarr" trying to climb. This does leave marks - some wipe away..others do not.
The Terra Climber is simple to operate, comes with a rechargeable battery pack and you can be sure the child will not have anything like this in the toy chest. I recommend making this an outside only toy - unless you have wide open space so it doesn't get stuck. My granddaughter loves remote controlled toys and she's absolutely wild about dinosaurs- so I thought she would go "gaga" for this. When she first saw it, her mouth flew wide open but no words came out. For awhile knocking the "towns" down and climbing over small obstacles was fun. But she got frustrated with the awkward way it "walks" around and when it gets stuck. I was disappointed by several things...the plastic used damages far to easy for a toy advertised to be played with in "rough terrain." The tail was just in the way. It would drag sticks or toys, slowing the "vehicle" even more. It moved so slowly we thought the battery was dying and plugged it up to charge. Only to be disappointed a couple hours later, when for sure fully charged, it moved no faster. Lastly, it's overpriced for what it is and what it can actually do.
We wanted to love this toy. But the quality and performance fell far short of the product description. Especially for a toy in this price range.
