As a backup, I carried 100% DEET but did not use it. For photographers, it's important to understand that 100% DEET can melt plastic. That means it can melt camera gear and bags. On the same trip I left an LL Bean backpack and a duffle in the hot car trunk with a closed bottle of deet and the plastic lining melted on both items so they had to be discarded.
For me - Herbal Armour is a great product. It is natural and does no harm - and it's highly effective.
UPDATE April 2015 - I just returned from another trip to the Okefenokee and Georgia marshes. The mosquitoes and no-see-ums were thick - and biting. But with Herbal Armor, bites were very rare and the bugs were easy to tolerate. One key point - be sure to reapply after 3 hours or so.
The smell is of a strong camphor, but seems to dissipate shortly after application. And it isn't unpleasant even at that. This will be my go too bug repellent from here on in.
