Top Customer Reviews
There are all those poly blend undergarments that get a lot of marketing attention, but NONE of them compare to silk. At this time silk is the best of them all. The one thing about silk is that it keeps you warm in the cold but you don't overheat when you go inside. Additionally, they are so thin you can wear them under your dress clothes. So, if you're a salesman going to and from your car to various environments all day these are what you want.
As I said, these are the third pair of Terramar long johns I've owned. Mine usually start to develop holes in about 8 years which require replacement. Hence my recent purchase.
I was really seeking something that I could use for pajamas. I was originally attracted to the "silk" aspect of the product thinking that the fabric would not "grab" the sheets or bed covers as I moved in my sleep. They are more "slick" than cotton but probably not as suited in that aspect as what I would expect satin to be. Alas, I do not like loose bed clothing as it always seems to bunch up and twist around as I move around while sleeping. There is some of that with Thermasilk as well but that may be more due to the size I ordered than anything else. All in all, they are better than a cotton tee and long-john bottoms I had been using. I didn't dislike them enough to send the back but I doubt I will order them again.
After reading the reviews, I decided to order the large size. In my case and for my use, the medium would have been better suited. I suspect that the size you prefer will depend on how you like your underwear to fit. Also, given that the Thermasilk product is very thin, a tighter fit might result in tears of the fabric.
One last note on the thinness of the fabric. These really are about like panty hose. If you have rough hands, you can expect to cause a run in the fabric just from normal use. They are also going to require some special attention to launder. Probably hand washing
I've read a couple of reviews about tears, etc. I find this could only be possible from buying too small so that they fit like women's panty hose and then running untrimmed toe nails all the way down. Even then, it still seems like a stretch that they ripped. Very unlikely.
My problem with this product is three-fold.
1) This product actually feels good to wear. The problem is that this ThermaSilk product is so shear that even when wearing two tops simultaneously, the product is almost 'see through.' This product also offers virtually no thermal protection. It might have some value as a 'base layer; however, that is not why I bought this product.
2) I bought this product because the Terramar customer service insisted this product was not dyed. I am allergic to Disperse Dyes. However, whatever was used in the manufacturing of this product is giving me a reaction. As a result, I cannot wear this product.
This experience has taught me that I'm still better off buying clothing at a brick and mortar store.
Real silk (did a burn test)
Too thin for warmth
Feels loose on the legs
Pills after washing
Bottom line: You get what you pay for...
