People tend to presume this is our cheeky way of re-writing Matador’s storied past to make it even more (ahem) storied. To somehow portray ourselves or the recording artists in some glamorous or outlandish fashion. You know, the time Jon Spencer slept with a Cadillac. Johan had 4 slices of pizza before 11:30 am, that kind of thing.
Suffice to say, we’re counting on the general population — old and young — being as brain-scrambled as we are, and even if they’re not, we’re confident that our catalog campaign and accompanying commissioned visuals from ‘Eat To Survive’ auteur Jeff Mahannah are powerful enough to do a Chris Nolan memory-wipe / reset.

Editorial Reviews
Matador's complete series of expanded editions of their five studio albums culminates with this deluxe reissue of their 1999 fifth studio album Terror Twilight, originally released in 1999. Pavement is widely renowned as one of the most popular and influential bands to come out of the American underground in the last three decades This expanded reissue will be available on 4LP or 2CD, and both formats contain numerous unreleased recordings, plus 'Be The Hook' - one of three never-before-heard songs. The sets both include the original Terror Twilight album remastered from the original tapes, and for the LP edition, it is presented in the original Nigel Godrich track order. The set includes B-Sides from the 'Spit On A Stranger' and 'Major Leagues' CD EPs, Stephen Malkmus home demos, tracks from the scrapped recording sessions in New York, full band rehearsal demos and 6 live tracks from 1999. PLUS each format contains a perfect-bound book with never-before-seen photos, a roundtable discussion with Bob Nastanovich, Mark Ibold and Steve West, interspersed with an interview conducted with producer Nigel Godrich, an essay by Scott Kannberg, and a Tape Op interview with Stephen Malkmus. It also contains previously unseen photos, handwritten lyrics, notes about ideas for the song titles and album title (where this edition's titled comes from... Farewell Horizontal), photos of the reels and cassettes, faxes to/from band members, internal marketing timelines, and a 1999 hospitality rider.

I vehemently disagree with the people who think this is an ordinary album. From the most of the band, sand SM who doesn't have an updated interview in the notes, they all seem to love the album and the tour for it.
Nigel did an amazing job producing this album, and pretty much every song sparkles with a beautiful pop luster that hardly any of their albums have.
It's definitely not the lo-fi and scrappy indie quirkiness of their early stuff, and nor does it bear much resemblance to the middle period. I didn't even like Brighten The Corners much, and this album solidifies Pavement as the great band that we always knew they were. Funny how looking back changes so many things. King Crimson did the same with Islands, and this is much of the same kind of trip. I always loved that album to pieces, and it's the same here. I've loved this album since release.
Terror Twilight is simply a pop gem of a record. Everything condenses and lands melodically when needed with an experimental, sparkly darkness imbued within typical song structures that get creative when need be. For how difficult the sessions are described as, I don't feel it. Malkmus just seems pretentious at this point in regard to the album. It was clearly the end of Pavement's run, and sometimes that can leave people with sour tones that don't at all have anything to do with the record.
I also can't stand "fans" who put records like this down. It reminds me of terrible Pearl Jam fans who only like the first two or three albums, even when their best probably came after that.
The reissue is as good as all their other ones. Nice double digipack and tons of extras. I happen to like many of the demo's here because I adore all the original material.
The remastering was definitely not needed. In 1999 this album sounded nearly perfect, and it still does. All they really did was tinker a bit with EQ, new scan, and made it slightly louder. I don't think the added loudness to DR8 from DR9 really does any favors here. The album needs it dynamic range, but it isn't too affected. I think it is clearer and brighter, and I'm not really sure I needed that from this album. I immediately could tell it was slightly louder and more compressed with slight EQ changes the moment I put it in.
As a package it is worth it to hear the demos, alternate studio versions, and live stuff if you also love the album. Some might pass, but I dig the packaging and presentation here. But unlike their other albums, TT never needed a remaster, and quite honestly I prefer the original sound to this version. This one is decent and more than worth it for fans and collectors though.
It's a bit expensive, but this set puts an end to the reissues of the studio albums, and it couldn't have gone much better. The vinyl package even has the alternate 'producer's tracklisting', which is a bit more experimental yet not quite as smooth or great for my liking.
But again, we're talking about the reissue itself, and so my lack of enthusiasm stems from the fact that the bulk of the new/bonus material is comprised of demos and alternate takes that are a real chore to sit through and offer no new insights into the songs. This is not Dylan's Another Self Portrait where we hear the songs anew after they've been liberated of their production trappings, but rather it is a collection of mediocre takes and demos of songs that were not all that strong to begin with. Truly, if you can sit through a meandering 8 minute in-progress version of "You Are the Light" more than once, you posses some inner quality that I do not. And as for the newly unearthed would-have-been B-side "Be the Hook," let's just say it's not a lost "Polish Mule" let alone a never before heard "No Tan Lines."
That said, if for some reason you do not own TT already, it's a great way to get the album - the remaster sounds very nice and the 6 excellent live tracks really do let you hear initially underwhelming songs like "Platform Blues" in a new-ish light. If Matador was hell-bent on the double disc thing, they should have just put a full show from that era along with the Major Leagues EP tracks not already on the BrightenTC reissue and just called it a day. Otherwise, I am pained to say that as much as I love Pavement and as much as I want Matador to do well, this really should have been one disc. And for those putting down 100 USD to buy this on quintuple vinyl or whatever... I dunno guys, maybe give it some thought.

Yes, the extras are largely alternates and demos but they are almost all fun and fascinating and there are a few intriguing B-sides to boot so only the most churlish would think they are being short changed here. For fans of Pavement and those who want to hear how since their 1999 demise Indie guitar rock has sadly sunk into total irrelevance this is a must buy.
