EPA Classification
The size class is determined by the US Environmental Protection Agency. The size class for cars is determined by the interior passenger and cargo volumes. The size class for trucks is defined by the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which is the weight of the vehicle and its carrying capacity.
Large Cars
Transmission
The transmission adapts the output of the engine to the drive wheels. Transmissions usually have multiple gear ratios (“gears”) with the ability to switch between them as speed varies (6 gear ratios = “6 Speed”). Transmissions must either be controlled manually by the driver (“Manual Transmission”) or automatically by the vehicle (“Automatic Transmission”). One type of Automatic Transmission is the Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) which doesn’t have a fixed number of gears.
Automatic
Drive Train
The drivetrain of a vehicle is the group of components that deliver the engine’s power to the drive wheels. Common configurations include front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

If you order a new Model S from Tesla, you will receive the new front end. If you buy an inventory model or even CPO, you will need to make sure the front end is to your liking. see less

After months of debate, we finally bought our first Model S in December of 2015.

This was easily the most expensive car either of us had ever owned, but we had become obsessed after our first test drive. The more we learned and researched, we also quickly became big fans of the company and of Elon Musk. With two small boys, safety was our top priority, but the car was exciting and amazing in every possible way.

Fast forward to June of 2016 and it had become painfully obvious that we had to replace my wife's 12 year old Ford Escape. Assuming we couldn't afford to buy another Tesla, we started looking at other brands and especially Volvos. However, we were both downright gloomy at the prospect of buying another gasoline car after our experience with Tesla, which is no way to feel when buying a brand-new vehicle. Luckily, it was at that time that Tesla announced they were bringing back the 60kW version of the Model S, which with a long-term loan (7 years) actually put the monthly payments on par with what the Volvo dealership was offering.

So now we have 2 Teslas, and we couldn't be happier. We're taking our first major road trip in a few days, which will be a 13 hour drive with 3 stops (we'll pass 7 superchargers, but don't need to stop at all of them), and we're all almost as excited for the trip as we are the destination.

I also have to mention that the quality of the service center has been superb and unlike any other car company we've ever worked with. Whenever we have a problem (some condensation appeared under one of the lights shortly after buying it), they pick my car up from work and leave me a loaner.

Ditto to everything that the other reviewers have said. The car seems like it is from the future.

Admittedly, if you thought you were buying an ultra luxury vehicle (which at this price point would not be an unreasonable thought) you might be somewhat disappointed. Some of the things in the cabin don't make a ton of sense. No cupholders in the back seat. The center console is easy to lose things in (some places where things can slip are difficult to retrieve from).

But that is all completely dwarfed by the experience of driving the vehicle. The power that is at your control is amazing. The intuitive tools and the autopilot make it an entirely new experience to drive this car.

It shows what a company can do if they don't have 100 years of legacy to protect. Ford, GM, Honda, etc have to iterate their product line so they don't leave old customers disappointed. Tesla got to start from a blank slate and they did an incredible job.

The fact that they run the company more like a tech company than a car company is a major shift. My car updates itself with new features whenever they are available. That is unheard of to date from the legacy car manufacturers.

I long coveted the Tesla Model S. I'd see it in the store at my local mall and swoon over it's beautiful design. But with the price tag, I had decided to wait for the Model 3. My commute is 185 miles - one way. So other BEVs with little range were out of the question. Then Tesla installed superchargers all along my route.

When the 70D was introduced, for me it was the right mix of range and price. So I went for a test drive. That was it - sold! Even though it is the most I've ever spent on a car, I didn't even need to think about it. This car is unlike any other driving experience, especially any car with an internal combustion engine. Even my "slow" 70D will pin you to the back of your seat. The comparisons to iPhone/flip phone are real - that is exactly what it's like. Once you drive a Tesla, it's hard to go back.

The cost of ownership is nothing compared to an ICE. No oil changes, brake pads (the regen braking saves your pads), spark plugs, or the hundreds of parts that can fail on a regular car. In a year of ownership, we have had zero problems. The only maintenance required is an annual at Tesla, tires, and wiper fluid Even with today's lower gas prices, I am coming out ahead. I was filling up 4x a month, at $40 each (todays prices), for $160/mo in gas. My electric bill has gone up approximately $50. So a $90 savings every month.

Even better - the car gets better! With OTA updates, you wake up to new features. One of those for me was Autopilot, which has changed my commute. I regularly drive through NY and CT during rush hour - AP in those situations takes all the stress out of being in traffic. And AP will be getting even better with the upcoming 8.0 release. I'll be like a kid at Christmas with my new features.

Have owned many luxury cars but the entire Tesla ownership experience from the moment you buy the car (online) to the moment you drive off the lot blows away competitors.
You have undoubtedly heard that it's fast, quiet and high-tech. The service though blows Audi, MB, and BMW out of the water. Your car is always "talking" to Tesla via its onboard cellular connection (free for life of car). About 2 weeks after I got the car, I received an email from my service advisor asking me to call her. When I called her back she informed me that the car diagnosed a problem and signaled Tesla. They sent a "ranger" (basically a service center on wheels) to my garage in Manhattan to replace the part while I was at work. What service!
The car is fun to drive, safe, almost impossible to flip, and extremely comftorable for long trips. I had an event in Washington DC and rather than take the train or shuttle I drive on I-95 stopping at one supercharger on the way for starbucks and a 20 minute leg stretch. It's the car Apple would build.
Even more amazing is the fact that your car is always "up to date" due to over the air software upgrades. Already my car has downloaded numerous software updates improving it (unlike the Navigation in my S Class Mercedes which I cannot figure out how to use). What a logical and amazing step forward!
