Selecting a Test Indicator on Amazon.com
A dial test indicator provides precise measurements of short distances to detect deviations from tolerance limits as well as variations in flatness and height from one object to another. Whereas a dial indicator has a fixed shaft, a dial test indicator has a pivoting shaft. It may have a balanced dial for reading the difference from a specific surface reference point, or a continuous dial for direct readings and a larger measurement range. Readings indicate the degree of angular displacement of the arm. Some dial test indicators have a revolution counter to minimize reading errors, or a tolerance indicator that shows when a limit has been exceeded.
Test indicators are available in inch or metric reading models, and with analog dials or digital readouts. A digital test indicator may capture minimum and maximum readings, or have an output for transferring data to a computer. A test indicator is commonly used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering applications. Manufacturers include Mitutoyo.
