Enhance your purchase
- Make sure this fits by entering your model number.
- Incredibly easy to use, 30 second results! Simply dip the lead detector swab in household vinegar and wait for the yellow mustard color to appear. Next, clean the testing area and rub the vinegar moist swab over the testing area - if the swab turns red, violet, or purple there's likely lead present on the surface
- No mess or hassle, dispose after use! No need for industrial hazardous material disposal containers or protective gloves; Scitus lead testing kit swabs are non-toxic, odorless, and won't stain your clothes or skin. Use them to test countertops, vinyl, plastic, or surfaces with coats of paint.
- 30 Lead detection swabs in every package. A simple cost comparison and you'll see that our lead tester swabs are the most cost effective lead testing product on the market.
- Our facility manufactures these tests to ensure reliability and quality
- Not for use on ceramics as they are more likely to hide evidence of lead within the outer glaze.

Product Description
Scitus Lead Testing Advantage
Our Swab testing kit contains 30 swabs, enough for 30 tests around your home, allowing you to not just test your project area but other areas which may pose a risk to your family's health. We only ask that you bring your own white vinegar to activate them, this ensures we can keep costs down by not mailing liquids to you, so we can pass those savings on to you! Your family's safety is our priority, Scitus Lead Test Swabs provide effective and cost effective detection of high levels of lead around your home.
Before Home Improvement
Test areas of your house you plan to work on, testing for lead prior to the start of a home improvement project can help protect your family and keep lead remediation costs down.
Testing Questionable Areas For Lead
Test areas of your house you suspect may contain lead, we have frequently been contacted by family's who's children have tested positive for lead. After learning this, they have used our swabs to test areas of their homes and find the source. Lead exposure can be crippling to a developing brain, its best to be proactive about lead!
Positive Result
This is an example of a likely positive test result, note the obvious crimson color change at the tip of the swab. This area should not be sanded or disturbed until lead safe guards are put into place.
A Likely Negative Result
This is an example of a likely negative test, the absence of a crimson color change indicates that no lead has reacted with the swab. This test is not intended to replace a professional inspection, if you suspect lead it is always best to contact a professional lead abatement contractor.

Lead inspector came out yesterday and found NO lead anywhere on the staircase. She tested everywhere with the XRay machine. Bathroom, no lead in the paint either.
Curious I then had to do the front windowsill because this test had came back as no lead. Her X-ray gun reported high levels of lead.
She actually asked me what test kit I used. She had never heard of these. I gave her the rest of the swabs, since they clearly don’t work anyways. She is going to check into them more.
Anyways, don’t waste your money. I ended up spending an additional $125 for a real lead inspection for no reason.

This product, while involving a tiny bit of extra work (finding vinegar), is stunningly less expensive and performs exactly the same. So happy to have found these. Unless you absolutely must have a test you carry in your pocket ready-to-use I cannot imagine any reason to not switch from the 3M tests to these.

These are very easy to use ( just need white vinegar) I’d suggest getting a bottle from Wilko for £1.50. I couldn’t find any at first and spent over £5 for a bottle on Amazon.
I wanted to check whether a still I'd bought (for distilling frankincense) had lead in the solder (it was sold as using lead-free solder).
I used one test on the copper part of the still and it showed a negative result.
I used a second on the solder. It showed a strong positive result (the tip quickly turned purple).
