I read all the reviews (thank you to those who posted) and purchased the Bison Teva De La Vina in half a size larger than my standard 8.
I was very pleased as the 8.5s were half the price of the 8s at that time. Amazon delivered a somewhat battered box with a pair of close to dark brown boots inside. I tried them on and there was a solid half inch of empty boot extending beyond my big toes. It was initially a little tight getting my foot into the unzipped boot which is why I think there are so many people saying to size up - it's not about the length of the shoe itself but the width of the ankle opening. I have 15 inch calves and the width there is just fine. Likewise I have average to wide feet and the boot is comfortable. I loathe having extra space beyond my toes as it tends to make me trip and stumble so I also ordered the 8 in bison.
Again Amazon delivered a even more battered box with a dark brown boot inside. These boots were even tighter in access but manageable and, once on, very comfortable and fit like a glove. I've been wearing them around the house for a few days and the access has become easier as the boot fits to my foot and they are very comfortable. For me as a size 8 they are true to size.
On to the color. As mentioned I ordered the bison - a lovely golden nubuck color in the photos. I thought initially I'd been sent the wrong color with the first pair but now, having two pairs, I can vouch that the Bison is much, much darker than in the stock photo. More like the dark brown but with the light rubber sole shown in the photo. I tried to figure out how this had happened. I put my boots under bright lights and in sunlight but I could not match the stock color. I think the stock photos may have been taken prior to waterproofing the boots (it usually makes them darker). It was such an enormous difference that I decided to call Teva. I spoke to a lovely customer service person on the phone who went off to retrieve their display model and see how that compared to their stock photos. He came back and said the display Bison boot was a dark brown color and not like the stock photos. He also mentioned that the dark brown is much darker than the brown shown in that photo too. He thought that Teva must have taken the photos before waterproofing or had the boots under extreme lights in the studio. (As a side note I'm well impressed with Teva's customer service and the way they dealt with my query.) I've added 2 photos of the boots outside and one inside - gives you an idea of true color.
I like everything else about the boot, but I am a bit disappointed by the color and I'm still deciding whether or not to keep them because of that - that's why they get 4 instead of 5 stars.
Also what's with the Amazon delivery? Plastic bags over the boot box that then just crumples and tears during delivery - very shabby packaging.
Feel true to size. The boots have a casual look to them.
In the photo I uploaded, I am wearing black pants - so compare the dark brown color of boot.
