This is the sandal I will buy again when I FINALLY wear this pair out.
UPDATE - 03/21/2015
Well the sandals gave out on my last hike - there appears to be a steel or hard plastic shank that goes along the middle of the shoe for arch support. Both shoes had the shank edge by the ball of the foot, poke through the top of the sole material (I hope that makes sense). I guesstimate I put about 450-500 miles on these sandals hiking mostly on West Texas rocky, caliche soil. I would sometimes pull cactus spines out of the sole but rarely did the spines go all the way through the sandal and puncture my feet. The bottom of the sole still had some tread left on it, the straps still attached on the sides, the shoes still felt good.
I bought the exact same sandal as a replacement so you can see I still like them but I have lowered my rating from a 5 to a 4 - I take care of my hiking gear and believe the sandals should be manufactured to last longer than the last pair did. Will give these Teva sandals another chance and see how they do.
Now, I don't buy Tevas because they look pretty, sorry. Teva just don't seem to to be able to do it. At least not for men anyway. I buy Teva sandals because they tend to be DURABLE and are MULTI ADJUSTABLE. In other words: I can crank the straps up to suit pretty much any situation. Relaxed for those casual strolls or knocking aroud the yard, or maybe wound up tight for scambling up those muddy bush tracks in the rain. I don't expect them to start falling apart as soon as they're put under a bit of stress.
And while I'm at it, Teva designers; Please ditch that damned gimmicky shoc pad. I can't discern any difference in the foam density between that and the rest of the foot bed and because it stands proud, it produces an irritating pressure point when sitting or driving. (when walking it's less noticeable) And it gets worse as they age. The foot bed of my old sandals have worn down significantly but the stupid bump under my heels hasn't worn at all.
Now I'm gonna grit my teeth and order another pair of Terra Fis, utter a few curses and attack the shoc pads with an angle grinder. - fingers crossed.
p.s., Am I the only person out there with wide feet? Why do I have to order a size or two larger just to be able to do the straps up?
Kudos to the vendor for easy returns, though.
