The last of a trilogy (Texas Hearts, Texas Lonely, and Texas Bad Boy). All three books stand alone. I started reading yesterday evening and have just finished all three e-books. I found a filling feast in Jean Brashear's writing. Without giving too much away, we seemed one man short for a Happily Ever After when the first two books ended.
Book one foreshadowed Devlin Marlowe's role could grow into a hero. The story and back-story of Devlin Marlowe and Lacey DeMille is so richly textured and peopled after book two used a sparse caste. I just wallowed in the characters. Together these books provide a symphony of complimenting layers of complexity.
Lacey is many things to many people but mainly she tries too hard to meet everyone expectations at great personal cost. Brashear writes so you care about all the characters even one or two villians. It is always hard to get to the inevitable ending.
Now he is back in Lacey' s life. There are many ups and downs as they attempt to begin again. Of course, her parents do not want her near him; but she is 35 now and they really have no say. Over the years of trying to please her parents in all things, Lacey has developed an ulcer. She lives on antacids but no one knows of the ulcer or how bad it is.
The combination of loving Devlin, having Devlin and her father fighting and learning during one of these fights that she was adopted causes her to question who she is, Devlin' s motive for making love to her and why her parents never told her the truth.
This is a very good story dealing with lots of issues. A perfect end to the series, although I would love to read more about the Gallagher siblings. Definitely worth reading.
Devlin leaves and as a successful private investigator comes back with some distressing news for the girl he still loves. It just so happen so happens that she is adopted and her birth family (Maddie and Boone from Texas Secrets) really want to meet her. Trouble is, her adopted parents never told her she was adopted.
Again, I like the characters in this book and the way the author tells the story. Very good, but quick read.
The author writes well, however, she does not give enough time to the characters to develop as a couple. I absolutely love her characters but, she rushes her endings in this and other books. Relationships need to develop (both main and secondary characters).
