Then she screws up by falling in love with an ambitious, married politician. A rumor in a gossip column, the threatening phone call from the man's wife, and no support from her law firm devastates Pen.
She is a physical and emotional wreck. Where to go? What to do? This uncertainty propels her back home to Sweetgrass Springs, Texas to lick her wounds and plan the fight back to the top of her profession.
The community effort to refurbish the old courthouse draws ex-SEAL Bridger Calhoun for a return visit back to the little town. Something about Sweetgrass feels like home to him. You will just have to read the book.
The characters are complex and totally believable. I love how Penelope and Bridger connected.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was the first third of the book was rehashing what had gone on in the other 4 books before it. Totally needed if you were reading as a standalone but having read all the others, I felt like I was racing through it to get to the good bits. I would have liked an Epilogue at the end as well, just thought it was a bit unfinished.
In saying all this, the story is still rich with love and loss and I was pleased to catch up with the characters of Sweetgrass Springs once again.
Always looking forward to whatever Jean puts out next.
I would have liked to hear about the meeting with law partners.
This is a series that can be read as stand alones.
I may re-read this story and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.
There is a lot of fun in this story and I guarantee you will enjoy it.
