This book makes a great gift - both when we are hosting people in our TX home and when we are hosted by others out of state! It's attractive, well laid out, and has great pictures. We love to pick a drink inside the book, buy the ingredients, and gift the book with a locally-made spirit. A few of the recipes require extra preparation of some harder to find or costly items (like dried Jasmine flowers or dragon fruit puree), but there are many more recipes with easy-to-find ingredients (or substitutes)! Anyone can make the drinks in this book and the narratives introduce you to some legendary Texas bars and distillery history.

Texans take pride in our heritage so much so that I applaud Nico for even taking on this project in the first place. His collection and perspective on Texas's burgeoning booze industry is not only engaging, but it also lives up to the legendary status of the lone star state. As a native Texan and lover of many of the brands, bars, and cocktails featured in this book, I thought for sure I'd be reading things I already knew...nope. I learned a whole lot about a culture that has made a remarkable impact on our state's hospitality industry, and the people who are driving it. There's the perfect amount of historical lore to lend you fun trivia to take to your own drinking circles. It's the shortest road trip across Texas you'll ever take...and it leaves more to be explored. Lucky for us readers/drinkers this is a huge state and the industry shows no signs of slowing down so there's hope for another volume or two. Here's hoping anyway.

Not only is this book full of recipes to make some of the best drinks in the state of Texas, but it is beautiful in presentation and makes a killer gift. Nico Martini knows his cocktails, culture, and bars of the Lonestar State and I'd recommend anyone pick up a copy of this that is interested in any of those three things.
