"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? But Rowdy and Megan make up their minds to soldier on, even while Megan learns to live without credit cards and Rowdy finds himself saddled with an unexpected puppy. Megan’s fake ID, intended to deflect the feelings of people hurt by the downsizing of the oil industry in general and Calhoun Petroleum in particular, doesn’t last long, and she’s thrust into representing the Calhoun interests to everyone from diner waitresses to environmental protesters.
As if that wasn’t enough, Megan has a guilty secret—she knows something about Rowdy’s past that even he doesn’t know. How in the world will these two share a year in the oilfields without killing each other or bringing another disaster down on Calhoun Petroleum?
I think I enjoyed this even more than I did Texas Heat (You don't have to read that one first--but why not?). Great characters, lots of action, Texas weather, and a puppy. What more could we ask for?
Megan Calhoun’s life is changed forever when her father’s will mandates that she and her siblings work in the family oil company for a year before they can claim their inheritance. Her assignment is to work in the field: a dirty, smelly, and dangerous job. Megan grew up privileged, and has never had to stick with any situation (or man) that bored her, but she’s determined to see this through.
Rowdy Baker, on the other hand, has had to work for everything he’s ever had. He’s a quality control assessment engineer for the Calhoun rigs, and Megan chooses him to teach her the business. Since her half-sister, Cassidy, recently dumped him for a rich oil company owner, he doesn’t want anything to do with Calhoun women, and is not particularly enamored with having Megan around.
This action-packed adventure is a fun ride of likable characters (including a dog), tense situations, a dark family secret, and hot romance. I’m loving this series, and can’t wait for the next one!
Megan is a girl who has had pretty much everything she ever wanted. Had the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth due to the success of her daddy's company. Finding out after his death that she is required to learn the company from the oil fields, has her in a quandary. She has no real skills to apply so she is trying to find her way. She's determined to make it work in order to get her inheritance. She's set to shadow Roland Baker, aka. Rowdy, who is the field engineer. He inspects the well sites and the wells themselves, to make sure they are doing everything in a safe and proper manner.
As the trip starts out, Rowdy isn't happy about taking the boss' daughter with him to the fields. For starter's she's a Calhoun-sure to be a prima donna, his ex is her sister Cassidy, and she has no clue about this job or what it entails. Megan did, however, totally take him by surprise. She was ready to dive into this and actually learn. I could see how she could've played the rich girl card and tried to just get by, but she didn't. She finds she does have a knack for research and also with tactfully dealing with people. How their friendship developed and then romance was thoughtful and gradual. Yes there was attraction, and when the sparks flew, the chemistry was sizzling! I also liked Rowdy. Although I didn't care for this nickname, sometimes you get what you get and it sticks! He was a little bit nerdy, but knew what he liked, and didn't sway from his moral compass-even though he had ample opportunity to do that. Their time in the fields is a disaster! Pretty much any and everything you can think of went wrong! I think because of their many perils, they bonded and that sparked the romance. We also have a bit of a mystery to solve and that's where Megan and her research shined!
The story was interesting and the plot filled with some twists and turns! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see how the other siblings fare with their inheritance requirements, and if Calhoun Petroleum makes it in the end!
