TiNspire CAS vs CX CAS

This review covers both the TiNspire CX CAS and The TiNspire CAS
I got the TiNspire CAS as a tool to help me self learn Mathematical topics that interest me. The screen is a multilevel gray and is large enough to accommodate several calculations. The Screen on the CX CAS is surprisingly smaller for a newer model, I think this a mistake by Texas Instruments. When I read it had a back light I thought I would upgrade to it as it would make the calculations easier to view in dim light. But i wasn't expecting what I got. I was thinking it would be at least a type of screen used on a lower end smart phone, with zoom function or one where you had better resolution. SO I am disappointed with the screen size of the CX CAS compare to the older CAS. The most impressive part however is the software which handles anything I need it to do whether I am solving equations or performing multiple integrations or summations.
The Key pad which is detachable is somewhat slack and come apart slightly making the device unresponsive or making some keys unresponsive. [A problem that can be solved with a slight upward shove] This problem Texas instruments have fixed on the CX CAS by giving it a non removable keyboard. The keys are a bit higer on the CX CXS as well. The software is pretty much the same on both models.
I am keeping both however, especially since the older model has a larger screen to help while graphing and doing geometry. A larger screen on the newer model would have been great, the color is not that important. I do appreciate the back light though. hate the tiny screen in this modern day.

If this matters to you the older model NSpire CAS has a faster startup is faster than the newer Model CX CAS as you can see in the video below

My nerdy 15-yo son loves this calculator. Personally, I find it a little difficult to use, but I only pick it up every once in a while to play with it. He seems to have no problem. It definitely requires your reading the instructions and keeping them handy. Even though he uses it daily, learning where to find and how to use a new function would be hard if you don't have the instructions. When he needed to switch to degree mode, we had a hard time finding it without the manual. The screen is black and white, which, to an iphone user, seems very archaic. It works just like it's supposed to, but in our color, high-graphic world, it seems a little dated. I think I would opt for the color screen next time if it's not terrible expensive. I'm already spending a lot for a calculator that will be used for several years, why not give a little extra for the better screen, I think.

I considered this as an amendment to my previous 2012 choice of the TI-89 Titanium calculator. This type of calculator is NOT useful for a person who is taking any class below or the level of Algebra or Pre Calculus . The reasoning is due to the many ways in which derivations are already done for you and its far more reasonable for the case of a precursor math class to Calc 1 or Calc 2.

For science students or engineers this is VERY useful as graphical date is easily represented and has been upgraded on this machine. IF one does not mind to read through the lengthy manual the Titanium provides there are only minute differences between these two machines.

For any math wizard or student who is worried aesthetics , ie. the color, keyboard, clarity of the step by step mathematical processes this is a first rate UPGRADE to the titanium as this still borrows much of the computational power of the Titianium and the CAS series calculators.

Graphing calculator so advanced that I actually find myself just wanting to use it just to play with it. I can do a lot of different things--and maybe I'm biased because I've never actually owned a graphing calc of my own before, just borrowed older (more expensive!) versions for tests--but it feels pretty fancy, especially for the price. My only problem (which is honestly not too much of a worry) is that it seems kind of big. But most high-price, fancy graphing calculators are this size. I love the way, by the way, that the display is crisp and high-definition. It's not full-colour, but who needs that? It's such a great price anyways.

This calculator is amazing. Its very complicated and confusing to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it actually works much nicer than a similar TI-83 or TI-84. I used to have the latter, and the TI-Nspire is way better because the screen is higher resolution and it can graph much easier. It also has more advanced features, especially the CAS version which allows you to solve many many types of algebraic and higher equations including integrals, derivatives, factoring, and more. Anything in your calculus textbook can be done in one step by this mini-computer/calculator. It is just like Wolfram|Alpha on your desk.

This helps tons with homework and tests, as you can double check your answer with the calculator (it can actually just solve the problem for you) so you know your work is correct. Removes the factor of unsurity of your ability when learning so you have more confidence in your abilities and learn better.
