This book started out with a great story line and I enjoyed it. Then about half way through, I was beyond hooked. My family has horses and we have all ridden competitively in horse shows like the ones described in this novel. Maybe I could relate to all of it so well. We are also a Christian family and believe that things happen in God's time and not ours. I can't remember when I have readed a book that made me laugh then cry (with sadness one minute and joy the next), or sit on the edge of my seat (like I used to do when my daughter competed in Reining, Western Pleasure and Cutting). This book has a healthy dose of equestrian, romance and Christian values. I highly recommend it.
If you enjoy horses and have some understanding of reining then I expect you'll find this more entertaining than those who don't. There are quite a few references to God, prayer and scripture but these are not excessive and add to the storyline; however if you find this offensive you may not enjoy the story.
I found this book to be well written and as a Quarter Horse owner and Christian I really enjoyed it!
Cassie Roberts left rural East Texas for the allure and excitement of the city. She's come back home, older, wiser and a single mom, innocence lost after a series of catastrophically bad decisions. In a muddy ditch she prays for help to keep a young foal alive. But behind her whispered prayer is a plea for something she's not sure she deserves---a second chance. If Cassie gets a second chance, this time she's bound and determined to do it right.
Horse lover or not, this is a book you'll be glad you read. And when you're done with it, you'll likely pass it on to a friend you know who may be looking for a second chance. Or like me, you may just read it again. It's even better the second time around.
