The family drama, and the embezzled funds, the mystery behind it, and the stress of the publicity all gave texture to the story and intrigue to the mind.
The attention brought to the need of the veterans after service care was admirable, and well done with respect towards the service personnel.
I liked the honesty of the family, their view of the history, and how the loyalty to family meant something to all of them. The light banter between the siblings was witty and made me smile.
Garrett and Hope have chemistry, connection, and understanding between them, that was instant, yet felt genuine. They truly get each other, and see the point of view of each other, even though they don't always agree on matters. They have open communication, until it suddenly gets too personal, and brakes down completely.
I loved how Max brought them together. The bond between Garrett and Max was like father and son from the first time they meet. Max brought a lot to the story, making me smile several times. Taking care of Max, getting his needs met, and keeping him happy gave Garrett and Hope a unique way to bond, get closer to each other in fast, yet honest way. The passion between them is ardent, the desire palpable, but is there more to their relationship than sex and taking care of Max, or is there a foundation for true, lasting kind of feelings, even for a future?
Enjoyable and entertaining story, just enough depth and matter, to be a quick summer read, something to take your mind off the world around, while relaxing. With enjoyable, developed characters, engaging events, and alluring, steamy romance, topped with one heart stealing infant, gave me lots of smiles and few deep sighs
~ Four Spoons
This was a sweet, romantic story. The plot was pretty fast and covered only a short time period. The main focus was on the romance between the couple, but the author also had a strong theme of family. I liked how she wove the story amongst the romance and stressed the importance of family and putting them first. There was a couple of bedroom scenes, a word of caution if this isn't your thing, but the overall plot of the story in was about family and love. Overall, this was a sweet story that I enjoyed reading.
Having never read a book by this author, I wasn't sure what to expect, particularly from a Harlequin novel. I am so glad I picked it up and read it.
What a sexy, slightly steamy, sweet, and enjoyable novel.
I absolutely loved the characters and the plot line, while easily guessed, still engaged the reader throughout the novel.
The characters of Garrett Lockhart and Hope Winslow are well developed, as are all the other characters in the novel. There is almost instant chemistry between Garrett and Hope (and her baby, Max). But the immediate attraction is something Hope wants to deny, until she no longer can. Garrett keeps wanting more but is afraid to say anything to Hope.
Garrett doesn't like the way a crisis with his family's philanthropic organization is being handle with some twists and turns of the truth as he is one who does not want to hide the truth and is very sure and to the point. Hope has been brought in to control the crisis, diminish its damage, and in doing so protect the foundation and the family from further problems. At times this means twisting the truth to place the family and the foundation in better light.
The author has a very strong and realistic storyline and it is definitely aided by her cast of characters, their roles and behaviors. And of course, 3 month old Max has a way of bringing everyone together...
I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series by Cathy Gillen Thacker
He wasn't aware of his mother's plan, and really did not want to get on board. He gradually comes to see that Hope, whom he fell in lust at first sight with, really was his family's best hope to recover from the bad publicity they were receiving.
Garret fell more than in lust, he fell hook, line and sinker for the single mom and her infant.
They overcome the challenges and their doubts to gain a happy ever after. It's spun with great descriptions of places, people and their emotions.
I received a free advance copy for my honest opinion and I loved it.
Overall I thought that this book was an interesting story. I enjoyed the two main characters and loved that there was the dual point of view. I loved the connection between hope and Garrett. I thought it was interesting how they handle the many drama that came their way. This was a sweet, light hearted book that I really enjoyed.
