Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary bassist Bootsy Collins, known worldwide for pioneering funk music with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic, will release his first new album in four years, 'Tha Funk Capitol of the World,' April 26 on Mascot Records. Collins collaborated with fellow P-Funkers George Clinton and Bernie Warrell on the record, along with an all-star lineup of musicians and cultural luminaries including rappers Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, and Ice Cube; actor Samuel L. Jackson; banjo phenom Bela Fleck; the Rev. Al Sharpton; scholar Dr. Cornell West; and guitarists Buckethead and Catfish Collins - Bootsy's late brother. Engineered in part by Dan Monti (Guns n Roses, Metallica), the album also features a tribute to Garry Shider, the late guitarist and musical director of the P-Funk All-Stars.

"I, too, love Bootsy. Saying that, I have to disagree with your viewpoint. This isn't really about the "good ole Booty funk". This is a work of P-funkness that intertwines time, space, mind set, cultural mores and more in a way that inserts true P-Funk into an incredible array of musical styles. Al Sharpton (and I am definitely not a fan), lends an unusual, but entertaining, insight into the true roots of all subsequent African American music since JB showed Bootsy how all that was important was gettin' it on the ONE! Every beat conscious style since then has used the ONE. And Bootsy, on this disc, gives us all an earhole full of knowledge, wisdom, raw emotion and sticky chocolate goodness that's ALL "on the ONE"!"
I stand by that comment and use it to accomplish my second purpose; my album review. I find it impossible to stop listening to this disc. I marvel at the love and craftsmanship Bootsy put into this work. He is indeed the "Funk Teacher". Still putting out incredible, original and genre bending sounds that will reach your rump AND your heart. He is single handedly moving the true spirit of "the P-Funk, the uncut Funk, the BOMB" into the 21st century. And God knows, we can sure use it! And so, once again, I am left in awe of William Earl Collins' grasp of how to make the world a better, happier, more open-minded and of course funkier place to reside. We have no choice, So flip it on and enjoy the ride. The world is a definitely better place when you just HAVE to "get up offa that thing and shake 'til you feel better"!

I prefer some of his older stuff but I appreciate the concept of pulling souls and characters from our lives into a state of elementary funk. What could possibly go wrong? Hit Me!
