Thai sticky rice (also known as \"sweet rice\" or \"glutinous rice\")is a tasty, sweet rice that does a great job of filling the stomach--but be careful not to eat too much... According to Thai tradition sticky rice can put you fast asleep if more than a couple handfuls are eaten. It is meant to be formed into small balls that you make with your fingers. Then dip it in spicy sauce and let it soak up like a sponge. See recipes below for meals served with sticky rice. Widely enjoyed throughout Thailand and Laos, sticky rice is gaining popularity as more people come to know it's unique delicous taste. We're currently offering a low price for a convenient 5 lb bag of Thai sticky rice, and you can purchase the essential cookware for about $25.00. When I bought this, I went all in and bought the pot and bamboo basket to steam it the same way my father did when I was a kid. It was definitely worth it.
Jumped at the chance of eating real sticky rice when I saw this brand on Amazon. However, they went overboard. Handles like glue, tastes too sweet, and feels like lead in your stomach. Fortunately, I recently discovered Lundberg's Calrose rice sold in Whole Foods (owned by Amazon) and I am quite happy with it. Certainly consider giving this Thai brand a try but if does not gel with you, you have other above-mentioned options.
You have to rinse it several times (until the water runs clear, not milky), and then you have to soak it for a while. I soaked mine overnight, plus a couple of hours. It doesn't taste sweet straight out of the cooker, but the coconut milk cooked with sugar transforms it into something incredible. Get some mangoes and give it a try!
Now how did the rice taste and was it sticky?
YES and YES
This is the original Thai sticky rice that I love, even if you search for the best Thai sticky rice this brand comes up all the time.
The rice I received is what's pictured and I would definitely buy again.
