You are crew members on a passenger plane bound for Barbados. You have flown this route countless times already and have experienced everything possible (and impossible) on these flights: technical malfunctions, turbulence even tour groups who are flying to Hamburg, Berlin, London, or Amsterdam in order to visit so-called “escape rooms” there . . . But what’s waiting for you today is going to leave everything else in the dust. The weather service already announced that things might get “a little rough, ” but now you find yourselves in the kind of electrical storm that can easily throw even an experienced crew into a state of panic. The clouds are almost black, flashes of lightning rip through the dark sky, and rain pounds the engines. Suddenly, an alarm light comes on and another and you have a queasy feeling that the rest of the flight might become the greatest adventure that you have ever experienced. My family had a good time with this exit game! There were 4 of us playing, the kids are ages 9 & 12. We’ve done one other exit escape room before, and this one was a little too challenging for the kids (the carnival version was easier) so they lost interest. My husband and I had fun though! I read reviews that said some of the answers were impossible... we didn’t have that problem at all. It was tricky, but that’s the point. We did need clues a couple times, but honestly they confirm the direction we were headed. I think if the kids were just a couple years older they would have enjoyed this as much as the adults did!

Our first Exit game!

This was our first Exit game and it was an enjoyable experience!

Of all the games, this one in particular had an appealing theme to for the three of us. So at least if we didn't like the way the game is, it would at least have an enjoyable theme. Overall, the game was fine, and I have a green light now to get other Exit games (as they go on sale).

You can go on Youtube and find videos where the different Exit games are ranked...or you can do what we did and just pick the one that appeals the most. We did not do AMAZINGLY well, but we did OKAY - 8 stars. We spent a lot of time on maybe just 2-3 puzzles. One puzzle we knew what to do...but just didn't see it...my husband still doesn't see it. I was looking at the wrong side, so...if I had been more systematic I would have figured it out sooner.

One clue...the wording was weird and we still don't get it. Maybe it was a red herring? If it weren't for one of the clues, we MIGHT have figured it out without the solution.

Just don't throw out ANYTHING before starting the game - the shrink wrap is O.K. to toss. But just the shrink wrap, which is the clear plastic covering around the box assuming you buy it new.

NO WHEEL???? - Great Customer Service

I have played a number of the Exit games and enjoyed every one of them. I'm highly disappointed that when I opened this (sealed) box, there is NO WHEEL. For those that have played Exit games before, you know this is now completely unplayable. And, of course, I ordered a bunch of them years ago and am now just getting around to playing this one so it's way out of the return window. Word to those ordering...open the boxes when they arrive even if you don't plan to play right away.

Update: I emailed Thames & Kosmos about the missing wheel after checking to see about replacement parts on their website. They responded within a day & shipped me a new wheel, free of charge, even though it was three years between purchase & opening of the box. 10/10 customer service and I look forward to playing the game.

Fun but Frustrating

EXIT makes themed escape games that come in a small box at a reasonable price. The object is to complete a mission like repairing a crippled jet, finding treasure, solving a mystery, etc. In the process, you become trapped — your need to escape helps provide the pace and motivation to progress through the game.
Typically, the EXIT games come with instructions, a booklet of illustrations, decks of Riddle, Answer, and Help cards, Strange Objects, and a colorful decoder disk that helps send you throughout the game. The games are designed to be played only once. All players work together and there is a series of help cards to ease you through sticky problems. The games are made in 4 levels of complexity and there is an online tutorial available. Otherwise, the EXIT games are self contained — no batteries, electronics, telephones, tablets, or computers are needed.
The Stormy Flight was fun, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as my first EXIT game, Sunken Treasure. We finished Stormy Flight in 4 sessions that were tiring. We struggled over several puzzles and, in a couple of cases, even the help solutions made no sense.
To repair our damaged jet, we had to find and open imaginary locked doors and boxes with 3-digit codes revealed by answering tricky word riddles, drawing pictures, finding hidden clues, punching out pieces, and entering digits into the decoder disk. We needed to discuss and brainstorm together to solve every puzzle, but in some cases, the pieces were too small for more than one player to work on at a time.
I could see nothing in this game that would offend anyone — there was no killing, cruelty, or sexuality. Points are optional and there is no competition between the players. However, I would not pick this for my first EXIT experience — although we had played one similar EXIT game, we found many of the riddles frustrating instead of challenging. Certainly, experienced players who had played many similar types of games would have a distinct advantage.
If you have enjoyed playing games like this, or if you like challenging puzzles, this could be the game for you. But this is not like Clue — there is no board, no colorful characters, and no luck.
If it sounds like I was a little disappointed in this game, you read me right. But I am glad I played the game and I will play EXIT: The Mysterious Museum tomorrow. I’ll let you know how that is.

The authors of the Exit series of escape adventures are excellent in creating puzzles of intriguing solutions that create a sense of a job well done! Each puzzle causes unique solutions that stretch ones creativity but not impossible to solve. Each puzzle does come with three clue cards per puzzle with each clue card makes the solution more obtainable and one can still challenge oneself as limiting how many of the clue cards one need to help solve the puzzle. I can't wait to open the next Exit box and in fact I have just opened The Haunted Roller Coaster as my next escape story. The items used or discovered are of quality cards and fun illustrations on fine paper/card stock.

My SO and I discovered these in a box and we LOVE, LOVE , LOVE them. I personally like them even more than the mystery games. This particular one though was by far the least enjoyable simply because the riddles were, well, sorta guessing. It became very frustrating when we were reading the clue cards and still had to work to understand the riddle. I love the app for creating the atmospheres and counting the time.
