From the Author
There are many sides to a story. I am not here to represent each side. I am simply sharing my own.
There is nothing linear about the healing process. There are times I have great understanding, am full of hope and excitement and then, in a flash, I am frozen in fear and burning in anger.
You might notice that I may have a discovery that may directly contradict the situation at hand. Such is the way... somewhere in the contradiction lays the truth.
All feelings of wisdom, pain, fear and love can exist at the same time.

This book was handed to me, from an acquaintance at a cancer caregivers support group. Looking back, I realize this was likely an afterthought, on her part. A token given to a broke, damaged man, living in unending pain. But, this hand-me-down book soon became a dog-eared, yellow highlighted comfortable place to land, for my spirit and for my soul. Now, it is a cherished gift, a keepsake.
But, my experience was not divorce but it was soon to become a very painful separation and loss. This book reminded me that losses are not all faults, blame, pain and failure. Farhana's situation is so very different than yours or mine, but I learned, laughed and loved what she wrote for us. It's not a self-help book but it helped my 'self'.
I know your journey, the author's and mine are no where near the same. However, all of our grief filled weeping and howling laughter come the same part of our souls. This book not only reminds us but demonstrates that if you and I can laugh at our challenges, it takes some of the pain, fear and emotional strength from those challenges. You know 'old school' conservative men, like me, we're not comfortable telling others about our loved ones or our own problems... Or to ask for help. But for me because of the humor this book made it easier to do just that. It helped me to laugh at my challenges, as the author had, too.
This book, reminded me that just telling humorous stories of my pain could help others, too. So, I did and it did. My challenges didn't become an emotional dropped banana peel but an occasional self-deprecating punch line... It was then I could help others, too. I wasn't the only person in pain, but being so wrapped in my own pain I didn't notice them or their help being offered to our family.
Also, when this author got me to involuntary laugh at my own pain, it broke the ice around my frozen heart, too. This author's story and point of view may have helped to keep some of us from stumbling. Or this book could be, as you now know it was for me, a gift that nudges or even pushes a friend back onto their path, after they've given up or are just fed up.
This book is for nearly everyone like you and I. People who have challenges, it's inspirational adrenaline. This book didn't encourage me to share my story and will not fix people. This does exactly what it should do, steer us back in the right direction, for us, with a unique writing style and humor. You know, I'm back on my journey, I still live with a lot of pain but my journey is easier because a stranger at a support group handed me this thoughtful, thought-filled book.
