Bryce Grayson has come to Marietta to take care of his father, who is recuperating after breaking his legs in a fall, and to persuade his father to move back to Seattle with him. When his father outright refuses, he tries to persuade Dakota to help him change his father’s mind. As he spends time helping Dakota with projects in place of his father, he finds himself falling for Dakota and the small town lifestyle as well. But Bryce has made up his mind that Seattle is his future and, unless he can realize that it doesn’t have to be, he may lose Dakota in the process.
This is a sweet love story and I liked the fact that it took some time for Dakota and Bryce to get together. While it is their love story, it is more so Bryce’s story about the need to set aside preconceived notions and open ourselves to the people and world around us. And, in the process, we might find something better than what we think we want.
This book is based on Thanksgiving time. Dakota works part time at Sage's Chocolate Shop and also volunteers with rescue animals. That tells you what a kind hearted woman she is. Then we have Bryce. Bryce comes home to help his dad who broke both legs while helping out at the rescue. (But Bryce doesn't know that for a while). Bryce plans to talk his dad into going back with him to Seattle and of course Bryce would he headed back to his workaholic ways. Little does he know that Marietta has a way of changing things for folks once they come within the city limits if they only open their hearts just a little bit..,..
I have read this book twice now and loved it both times.... If you can I highly suggest reading all the Love At the Chocolate Shop books. They will warm your hearts.
Because of an inheritance, Dakota is able to work little and devote much of her time to her love of rescuing animals and helping them find the perfect home. She is happy more than content to live in the small town that she visited so often as a child. Grayson is an architect whose only purpose in being in town is to care for his dad who was injured in an accident and to convince him to move to Seattle where Grayson can keep a closer eye on him. Grayson is afraid of big dogs, and does not care for chocolate or small towns, but he is drawn to a lady who love all three.
Bryce and Dakota were great characters. He was kind of stubborn when it came to his dad (ok, a lot stubborn) but deep down he really was just trying to be a good son. Dakota really worked too hard, between her job and volunteering with the animal rescue. But she was such a caring person and I just loved her personality.
The more I read about Marietta, the more I wish it was a real place that I could go visit. Especially to be able to visit Copper Mountain Chocolates.
