A Very Thankful Prayer was written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Natalia Moore. Like I mentioned above, it is a board book which is great for little fingers learning to turn pages. It is published by Thomas Nelson and has 24 rounded edge pages. The cover illustration also includes pretty bronze accented leaves.
This book has very cute and well illustrated pages filled with fall scenes of animals interacting with each other and their surroundings. The colors are bright, but stick to an autumn color pallet. Each page talks about something that we can be thankful for in clever rhyming sentences. The book takes you through the season of fall and how we can be thankful all the way through. It has a page that shows a Thanksgiving meal, but it is by no means, just a book about Thanksgiving. It is a book about thankfulness through the season.thankIt depicts cute scenes that are familiar to little ones and the excitement surrounding the changing season: the falling leaves, pumpkin patches, eating turkey. I thought it was a cute book and a sweet prayer. My favorite rhyme came at the very end of the book, tying everything together.
“I’m thankful for the seasons,
And I am thankful God made fall.
But for His love that fills the earth,
I’m thankful most of all.”
I would definitely consider this a religious or Christian book, because it specifically names God, as who you’re praying to, which I love, but I know it could be a problem for an athiest or a different religion. If you like seasonally themed books, this is a great one. It’s fun for me to rotate seasonal books in and out of our reading basket, so that it always stays new, fresh and exciting.
From our family to yours, we all give this book a thumbs up!
