Product description

File: LITTLE FEAT. Lead singer and original main songwriter's only solo album. And it's good too!

Amazon.com

Few musicians mirror Los Angeles's tradition of rock chameleons better than Lowell George, son of a Hollywood furrier and the brilliant, short-lived auteur that shaped Little Feat's '70s sound and fury before retreating to allow a more democratic if less gripping chemistry to surface. George's hearty but lyrical, blues-rimmed voice, signature electric slide guitar, and infectious, often surreal songs defined the band--as did his production on their pivotal mid-decade albums, which convinced more than a few listeners that they were Southerners. His 1979 solo album, recorded shortly before his untimely death, mixed new originals ("Honest Man," "Cheek to Cheek," "Himmler's Ring," and the touching "20 Million Things" among them) with smart R&B covers from Allen Toussaint ("What Do You Want the Girl to Do") and Ann Peebles ("I Can't Stand the Rain"), dressed in tight brass choruses and sleek backing choruses, and fit snugly with the Feat canon. --Sam Sutherland

For the fans of lowell George you can't get any better than this ! The only complaint I have about this CD is that it ends to quickly. And many thanks to expert digital mastering by Joe Herschberg..

Lowell left us way too soon! As one of the founding members of the band Little Feat, his contributions as a songwriter, performer, musician and vocalist are pure art from a truly creative and musical soul.

His solo works are not an easy find. They can be costly as a result. But worth every penny. This recording has all the creative juices of a songwriter and as an interpreter of songs penned by others. He's marvelous at redefining another's song.

He traveled in musical circles with the likes of Jackson Browne, Valerie Carter, and Bonnie Raitt to name a few. This cd is a solo effort of Lowell reinventing a genre of music that in the 70's and 80's became hugely popular of the California singers r/songwriter of the times.

This cd is testament to Lowell's ability to stand out on his own. Each song is true grit of the life well lived, delivered with panache and with sincerity. No matter how many times I listen to this compilations of tunes, I never grow tired of them. Maybe because these were the special times that Lowell left us in song. Traces of his talent in each note, lyric and chord.

I couldn't be happier to have just a smidgen of Lowell George's music before he left us. These songs are truly timeless.

Little Feat is one of my favorite bands….and Lowell George is a big reason for that. I have come to appreciate his song writing more and more as I get older. I listen to his music almost every day, it is so well done. This album is a solo one and I am getting used to it, it is a departure from Little Feat.

I like this final album from George. Not quite as good as the Little Feat work but still distinct in it's recording and production. Fame and fortune back in the 70's took too many artists. It is a good farewell for him. RIP

This record has always been so, SO underrated. It is both similar to a Little Feat album, but also very different. It could be argued that this LP is more coherent and cohesive even than any Little Feat record. I don't know what LG did health-wise before he recorded this, but his singing is much stronger than on the previous few Feat records. Lastly, it's actually the BALLADS here that are just awesomely great. I wish LG had done more of these semi-acoustic types of tunes on Little Feat's records. It's just a tasty record from start to finish. It's funny to remember that in the olden days an album was often on about 35 minutes long. That's the case here, and man do I wonder if there is additional material from these or other 1978-79 recording. If there is, I sure hope we get to hear it issued soon. Lowell is in the upper tier of my personal pantheon when it comes to singing. If you don't own this, you should buy it immediately for the very low price that Amazon is charging. Long Live Lowell George!

Love this album- the deluxe is kind of a joke since it’s not expanded in any way other than two songs- ‘what do you want the girl to do’ mono promo version is exactly the same as the album version- kind of unnecessary. ‘Heartache’ was previously released on CD pressings since the early 90’s. I hope ‘Thanks I’ll Eat It Here’ gets a proper deluxe release someday.

Update- PLEASED to share that this album finally is getting PROPER deluxe next week for RSD 2024!!! Cannot wait to hear “20 Million Things (alternate version)” and “Doctor My Eyes”!!!

We lost Lowell to young. I’m replacing my first copy of this cd as mine are packed away and inaccessible at the moment. If you liked the original Little Feat I don’t think you’ll be doing with this disc.

In the UK at the time of Punk Year Zero, Little Feat were one of the few American bands to be spared the music press vitriol that went on at the time. I was a big Little Feat fan and awaited Lowell George's debut eagerly. At the time I was disappointed as I expected some slide guitar drenched offering not the soulful work contained on the album. It is all about the artist's voice in this case and Lowell George was such a fine singer. The album is a mix of originals and covers. All have something to offer the listener. I lost the original vinyl in assorted house moves and am very pleased to finally catch up with it on CD. The closing track (not on the original LP) 'Heartache' is a magical duet with the underrated Valarie Carter. Fine album.
