I am deeply saddened that no other books by this author are available on Amazon. I would have loved to have read more from such an obviously talented author. This book was released in 2011 but she hasn't released anything since. How unfortunate!
The cover and the title drew my attention and I was excited to begin reading it.
I read this as a stand alone as I have not read anything else by this author.
As a witch who lost all her powers, Endora Bast has spent the last 40 years being a familiar to her best friend.
When ordered to make a command performance at a tribunal meeting, Endora isn't sure what to expect. It was this very same tribunal group who tore her from her true love, banishing into a world without her powers.
When she is asked to help them, Endora is shocked and feels she owes them nothing, but the opportunity to regain her powers excites her. The thought of having to fight off Obsidian Ashmedai , a witch full of dark magic, makes Endora nervous, even more so when she finds out she has to work with the lover she has not seen for 40 years.
Marcus Morion is the man that stole her heart and connecting with him again makes Endora nervous.
What happens next will leave you giggling, especially when you meet Mav, a good friend to Marcus.
This book was great and I did enjoy all the twists and turns that kept the story going.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

My Rating: 4.5 Stars
The second book in the Familiar Magic Series. Endora Bast knew love once, then the witches tribunal dampened her magical abilities till she was nearly human in her abilities. The worst of the punishment was her separation from her lover, Marcus Morion. Then the tribunal had the gall to come to her asking to her to take on Obsidian Ashmedai , her arch nemesis. Their dangling carrot. A chance to have her powers retuned and her future with Marcus allowed. She really has no choice.
A series that allows readers to enjoy different scenarios and protagonist to keep the series fresh. That Old Black Magic is a well written fun read. This fast paced story line keeps the reader involved and on the alert to see how the story ends. My rating for That Old Black Magic is 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Endora we met previously in the first book of the series. She's buttoned up, can shapeshift into a cat, and likes her life to be in order. All of that changes when she receives a summons by the Tribunal. They are the ones that removed the majority of her power as a misplaced punishment for being present at a mass murder. She wasn't alone in her punishment - her soul mate, Marcus, received a similar punishment. Also, they were told to stay away from one another. Now, it seems, the Tribunal wants their help tracking down the real bad guy.
It's a little confusing as to why these two are specifically tasked with this job, and why they won't give them their powers back to do it, but I guess fate is weird that way. These two have some sizzle, but Endora is determined to fight it. You can probably guess how well that works. In the end, this story shows that love is powerful and can conquer even the most evil of villains.
