Der Bingle is in fine form singing Christmas Chestnuts. He has his own style and his own mix of music. CD also called "White Christmas". Has Christmas in Killarney and Mele Kalikimaka on it, nice change of pace.

My father used to play this record of all others for me when at Christmas time when I was growing up. I'm 21 now and still love it. The record is barely playable, so I wanted to get him the CD for Christmas, but NO it's out of print! It is A CRIME that this CD is no longer available! A CRIME! A CRIME! A CRIME!

Recorded Christmas music first became popular in the 1940's following the success of Bing Crosby's original version of White Christmas. This British budget collection containing fifty Christmas recordings of the era is as good as anything you are likely to find, especially at the price.
Despite this being a budget release, the sound quality is good (not always perfect) and there are some liner notes that include they year in which each track is recorded - the dates range from 1939 to 1951. This double CD was originally released as two separate budget CD's (one, like this collection, titled That Christmas feeling and the other titled Winter wonderland) and you will find some songs appearing twice, but with a different singer on each CD. I counted nine such songs but I don't mind this duplication. Why should I complain at getting both the Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra versions of White Christmas?
Bing Crosby, the Andrews sisters, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Perry Como and Nat King Cole account between them for a substantial number of the tracks included here but that's how it should be - but there are plenty of other singers and bands represented here.
Apart from those already mentioned, there are several other great ladies of the era here. Ella Fitzgerald sings Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney. Peggy Lee swings nicely on Winter weather, backed by Benny Goodman. Britain's Anne Shelton sings a beautiful version of Merry Christmas. Child star Deanna Durbin sings O come all ye faithful and Silent night. Margaret Whiting is not represented by a solo recording, but she and Jimmy Wakely sing a great version of Silver bells.
Gene Autry gets two tracks - Frosty the snowman and Here comes Santa Claus, though his most famous Christmas recording, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, is not included, although two covers of the song are. Ernest Tubb's original recording of Blue Christmas is included. Other great singers and bands to be found here include Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Spike Jones, Eddy Arnold, the Orioles, Dick Haymes, Guy Lombardo, the Boston pops orchestra, Vaughn Monroe and Russ Morgan.
If you enjoy 1940's Christmas music, this is essential.

A collection of standard christmas music songs during the year of 1973, put out by J.C. Penny. A great addition to my collection. 1) Percy Faith & Orchestra - We Need A Little Christmas, 2) Leonard Bernstein & New York Philharmonic - Carol Of The Bells, 3) Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, 4) Johnny Mathis - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, 5) Leonard Berstein & New York Philharmonic Orchestra & Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 6) New Cristy Minstrels - O Bambino ( One Cold and Blessed Winter), 7) Ray Conniff Singers - Here We Go A Caroling, 8) Barbar Streisand - I wonder As I Wander, 9) The Norman Luboff Choir - O Little Town Of Bethlehem, 10) Robert Goulet - Home For The Holidays, 11) Eugene Ormany & The Philadelphia Orchestra - Hark The Herald Angels Sing & We Three Kings of Orient Are, 12) Sammy Davis Jr - It's Christmas Time All Over The World. The song O Bambino I have never heard before and its a song that wasn't in my Christmas Collection, so was tahnkful to find this album. Except for O Bambino and It's Christmas Time All Over The World, you just have a collection of standard christmas songs. Does anyone know what year JC Penny stopped putting out christmas albums?

THAT CHRISTMAS FEELING (P11853) is a 1973 Columbia Special Products LP manufactured for JCPenny.
SIDE ONE NOTES
1.) This familiar and jolly Percy Faith cut from his 1966 CHRISTMAS IS... (CS 9377) LP epitomizes the COLUMBIA Records holiday music sound. 2.) "Carol of the Bells" plus Bernstein's NY Phil equals perfection! A gorgeous track. 3.) This classic Andy Williams number appeared on many Xmas song collections over the years. A vigorous, brassy recording that holds up very well. 4.) Natural echo enhances Johnny's vocal. A chorus joins in at the end. 5.) A 300-plus Mormon choir sings the less-familiar melody, with minimal orchestral backing. 6.) The New Christys add a folky flavor to this traditional Italiano canzone di Natale.
SIDE TWO NOTES
1.) Yet another from the previously mentioned P. Faith album, it too was a perennial for many Yule seasons. 2.) One of the finest from Barbra's 1967 release, A CHRISTMAS ALBUM , a record that went Platinum five times. Wandering minstrel John Jacob Niles, composer of "I Wander as I Wander," performed his folk songs while strumming a homemade dulcimer and singing in an unforgettable counter-tenor voice. 3.) A reverent "Bethlehem" is done a cappella by the Luboffs. 4.) Anyone tuned into "adult contemporary" radio back 40 or so years ago was sure to hear Goulet's genty swingin' "Home for the Holidays" during the month of December. 5.) Joining Ormandy's massive Philadelphia orchestra on "Herald Angels" is the Temple University concert choir (Robert Page, director). 6.) The children's chorus that backs Sammy gives Xmas greetings in many languages.
