While the 'Wildman' as away in the Air Force, she married his best friend Johnny but now Johnny was killed in an accident and Max is back in Alton flying in needed supplies for the flood that is covering most of the Midwestern states.
Elizabeth needs help with a pump and seeks Max's help to start a second chance romance with lots of twists and turns for a great romance in the middle of one of the worst floods in the history of our country. It is a great and unusual setting but made a wonderful story.
I purchased this story as part of an anthology.
We get southern hospitality, second-chances, reactions to children seeing their mother finding love again, and a SWEET mother-in-law. Most of us don't get an up-close view of the Mississippi and her tributaries' flood disasters, just headlines in a newspaper or a special on TV news. That Wilder Man gives us a personal look at the devastation and heroism related to natural disasters.
Steamy sex doesn't hurt either.
This is a read-it-til-you-finish-it kind of book, and I'm glad that I did!
I enjoyed this story but it frustrated me with the way Elizabeth denied her feelings for her first love. And I believe whole heartedly that Brodie is really Max's son. It just wonderful that all worked out well in the end and second chances, determination and true love does get a happily ever after. Max is a wonderful man who deserves this second chance!
