I didn’t like the first of this short novel at all. It tried to be witty but turned out to be too crude or aggressive. For example, “topped the chart in rubbing-her-nose-in-poo category,” “she’d rather punch them in their pretty little faces,” “puking children tended to be showstoppers,” and “she pounded her steering wheel with her fists and shouted obscenities at her vehicle.” This is listed as Christian, but it uses “dang” and Jeez,” and we all know what they stand for. It had 7 pages describing how overweight Tessa put on her pantyhose. But after a poor beginning, the story itself wasn’t so bad. It did end much too soon and needed more at the conclusion though.

I love clean romances. Tessa has money issues. When she goes to a bridal shower and realizes she left the gift at home, she decides to leave. But her car won't start. A very kind man who witnessed her anxiety offers to help. And he is easy on the eyes! She is attracted to him, and apparently Tim is attracted to her. Tim is a good man. Very spiritual. I really enjoyed reading this.

I read through this really quickly and it kept my interest. Admittedly, this is not my genre, but I found it a nice character piece, introducing two people and hinting at a future together. I liked the open endedness of it. It brought them to a believable place and then leaves the rest up to your imagination, which I think is nice.

I originally read this novelette in the Where the Light May Lead anthology, so the story didn't have its own cover at the time. Now that it does, I find it refreshing.

I quite enjoyed this rom-com featuring a humorous heroine who's self-conscious but also self-aware. The story highlights how beauty and hotness come in all different packages--a quick and entertaining pick-me-up.

The author's writing is wonderful and polished and the story contains the right balance of humor and romance. I want more though! Can we please get a sequel?! :)
