I love this book, and my 5-year-old son is almost in awe of just how mean the boy in the book is. He doesn't seem to be wanting to emulate the behaviors at all, which is what I was afraid of. Instead, when my son is naughty, the phrase "That's mean!" chastens him completely, probably because he remembers the last line:

"And if you are very, very mean, you will end up...ALL ALONE!"

I love books that pack a punch, and can't wait to get the authors' other books.

Pittau and Gervais tell the story of a incredibly mischievous boy whose sole hobby is to torture anyone or anything crossing his path. The majority of his devilish acts qualify as grotesque (skewering garden slugs) or cruel (making fun of blind people), more than you would expect from a children's picture book. Its morbid humor is what made me buy it, and the pictures (in red, black and grey, stick-figure-style) capture the naughty feeling of the book. Most people would say this book is for older kids (6+) and grown-ups. For younger kids, buy the Elephant Elephant opposites book.

Not as good as "That's dangerous!" However, I still love it! It's a real side splitter and kids love reading and learning about what is mean and how to be a good person from these amusing and sometimes bluntly hilarious scenarios on how to be kind, and the do's and don's of social behavior.

This book offers great insight into what can happen to a person who is very, very mean. This has been very useful for our children, in terms of what might happen to them in the long run- as the book states they end up all alone! All of our kids are able to articulate this- which I believe to be a genuine truth about life. It means that this ook can educate kids on very important and pertinent life situations.

They laugh and laugh over this book. I was worried it might give them ideas, but instead they have made a game of calling each other out when they are being mean. If your child doesn't have a little sister (like in the book) activate your imagination and change the words.
