Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its simplicity and wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an Alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a meditation on the treasures found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is art eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

It is sometimes a challenge to write a review on a book that you've read because it could never truly encapsulate the entire experience of reading it or even why you chose to read it. I will do my best to provide a quick snippet of how this book was part of my journey. I worked at a publicly traded FinTech company where I was speaking to a colleague in engineering who happened to be of a familiar tribe. We spoke about a few things, and I'm not sure if I was wearing my "Decolonize Your Bookshelf shirt from TrueDiversitee or some other shirt that I frequent, but through the conversation, my colleague started to speak of this book and said it was a good read and I should give it a try. My colleague proceeded to hand me their copy of the book(which had a different cover) to read set. During this time, I was reading Such a Fun Age, and Between The World And Me before I had the opportunity to read the Alchemist. I decided to order my own copy of the book before reading. It just feels right to me to have your own copy of what you're reading. I appreciated the read, it frankly fit well into my life and contributed to the journey I was on. I ended up recommending the book to another colleague as we spoke about life events and just elevating and progressing in our professional and personal worlds. A few days later, I received a text from the latter colleague stating that they ordered the book, and a few days after that, they texted me stating how much they enjoyed the reading. My theory is that this book will be enjoyed by those already on a journey or starting one, or rediscovering another journey. Either way, it is up to you to decide if you want to read this or not. But I will continue to flow in which this book flowed to me, it was suggested, so if you are someone who is in between the books, or a moment in life, I would say or maybe write " Have you ever read The Alchemist? It's pretty decent. I use to read it while I would catch the city bus and one day I committed a whole day to finish it because it was legit." Also, why did my car get towed when I parked it in my correct unit designated parking spot, why was it $500 to get it from the towing impound when it was only there for a day, and why did not property manager not call me back after leaving them a voice mail? Can y'all people do better!!! I will also add that the tow company damaged my bumper during the tow, and now the HOA is charging me for a parking sticker. But like Santiago, I will continue forward and it will all work out.

I choose this book for my 2023 reading challenge. I loved the storyline, it keeps you reading. The words and plot are very easy to follow. The story is simple but beautiful, I can see why this book is such a seller after all these years.

I read this book in high school, but didn’t recall any of it. Just read it again and it’s now one of my top five favorite books of all time.

If you only feel despair and have little to no hope left in you. THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! The book shares a story about a boy on a journey, but it’s sooooo much more than that. This book is so good I’m about to get another book from this author. I believe it’s called the warrior of light.

The story itself is a nice tale- an odyssey of the protagonist who experiences many trials, experiences, and lessons while finding love and a literal and figurative treasure.
Without spoiling too much, I would say it reads almost like the "Life of Pi" where the protagonist (and in turn, the author) muses about religion and spirituality throughout the tale to facilitate growth and maturity. This in and of itself is nice and I do appreciate it, but some may find some of the ideas presented offensive as the story, at times, borders on mysticism while intertwining strong elements of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. WIth that in mind, I would not recommend it to those who hold very strong and conservative religious beliefs from the three monotheistic religions, but, those who are more inclined to New Age spirituality and those who are open to interpretation, you may find it enlightening and enjoyable.
It's a good story, though. I enjoyed reading it.

I read this book as a recommendation from a co-worker hoping to teach the book in her class. If you're looking for a novel to teach, this one definitely has a lot to unpack! "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho is a fascinating book with many life lessons. Without giving much away, "The Alchemist" is written in the form of a fable and follows the journeys of a shepherd chasing his dreams only to find that everything he ever wanted he had had all along. It is defintely a book that makes you consider a lot of your own dreams, your "Personal Legend," and how these things evolve over your lifetime. I do wish this book had chapters to help me sort my thoughts in my head and find better stopping points, but overall, I love the central message. I would recommend this to anyone over the age of 16 to help encourage those deeper level thinking skills to apply these lessons to real life.

This is probably the most intresting book I've read so far, the writing so the book is amazing and can be easily understand. If you are first time reader then I would definitely recommend this book. It is was originally written in Portuguese and later translated in English.
The story is about a boy from Andalsuia and his adventures through African desert to find treasure in Pyramids of Egypt. One can easily relate with the story because we all have our own goals and this book will teach you that no matter how many obstacles come in your way you should never give up
As per the quality of book goes, It's not that great, Pages are low quality. But the texts are readable without getting strain in your eyes. So I can say the quality of book is okay
I'm giving 4 star because of the low quality of the book.
I hope this review will help you in your buying decision.

There are too many things one can learn from “The Alchemist”. Its all about following your dream and about taking the risk of following your dreams, which is actually so difficult to do and there are very few people in this world who actually do, I mean risk it all, just to follow your heart and your dream. Beauty is, the author is so right in saying that when u decide to follow your dreams the entire universe conspires in your favour which he called as the “beginners luck” and we all have been witness to this beginners luck at one or other point in our lives. Also, he talks about a stage in our journey towards realizing our dreams, where everything just goes haywire and there is everything working against us and it almost takes us to the brink of abandoning everything and just getting back to what was so familiar and comfortable.

A good enough story, but relies on a certain existing mindset

So, people say this book has changed their lives. I'm sure it has. Not me, though, because it needs to lock-in to a very specific pre-existing sense of theism/spirituality which I don't have. If you don't believe in a benevolent higher power, this book just doesn't really work as anything other than a tale. I suppose there are some general takeaways to be had, but I really disagree with the somewhat fatalistic aspects, which are often slightly contradictory. This might set people on a very enthusiastic "wish and wait for what I want" path, or "go with the flow". Maybe I've completely missed the point, as I read it over the space of an evening. I did highlight a couple of things in the book, which I often do, so I suppose there are some general insights that aren't directly related to certain beliefs. I imaging this would resonate with people who believe in the "law of attraction" - e.g. the universe is a materialists shopping catalog, existing only to wait for your order for a new car, house, wife/husband, job, etc. However, if you are a non-materialistic critical thinker and atheist (not necessarily nihilist), you may find some of this quite ridiculous. The idea that if you want something, the whole universe will "conspire" to get it for you is nonsense. If I will the end of the universe, is that going to happen? No. If I wish the opposite of what you wish, how will that conflict be resolved?

This book is not for you if you are looking for a way to escape reality by immersing into a juicy plot during the week end. This book is about you, me and anyone and everyone .It is about our life, our troubles and tribulations, our goals and the purpose of our existence. To determine our goal ( or Personal Legend as Coelho terms) and to pursue and achieve it is not difficult if we are focused because in the words of Coelho,"..... when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
The story is that of a shepard boy named, Santiago ,from Andulasia. The boy embarks upon a journey in search of a treasure that he had dreamt of. Each one of us are, infact, Santiago, unable to realise when and where we spilt 'the spoon of oil '. As you go through the book you learn that all is not lost and there is hope.
Narrated in a simple lucid manner, the story is interspersed with metaphors ,fables and allegories. Compelling, interesting and full of hope and positivity, The Alchemist is a bedrock of inspiration that instills a strong sense of faith in yourself.
Such is the power of this book that you will want to read it again and again. Paulo Coelho has an uncanny knack to soothe your soul and boost your morale. This book, in my opinion, should be read by everyone, young and old, atleast once .

I finished this book in two days... long story short. Boy is looking for treasure.. he goes from point A to point B to point C, D and E in search for it. The treausre was at point A then he goes back to point D to find the girl he fell in love with. The End.
I had to search on Google to see what the message was in this book and there really isn't much to it... luckily I didn't spend too long reading this one. I know how annoying it is spending a long time reading a book and you're none the wiser after finishing it.
