I was excited to get my hands on this one 'cause I am a sucker for an mpreg story. I also really enjoy shifter books. And this one did not disappoint.
I'm pretty sure this is my first Victoria Sue book and I'm also pretty sure it won't be my last. I was impressed with the world she built in this story and also with all the characters she developed. They all played important roles in every scene they were in. Not once did I find myself getting bored with the story. It's action packed with some sweet romance.
I didn't care for the misunderstandings that led to the angst. I also felt the ending was rushed.
I'm hoping for an Sam and Asher book. I really want to read about these two getting together.
I loved reading this story. It had such amazing world-building and character definition. I loved watching Luca and Kit fall in love, and watch Kit transform from unwanted human slave to the Alpha King's mate and Verum Omega. Victoria Sue did a wonderful job not only doing a twist on the star-crossed lovers trope, but in creating a world that enamours the reader. I didn't want the story to end and my only problem with the story was it just felt to rushed in parts, not enough details to the little things that I like as a reader. This is a personal preference and may not even annoy other readers. I would have liked to see more love between the two, at times Kit wasn't even sure he was wanted, and that bothered me. In shifter stories, especially wolves, I like the mates to have a lot of passion and love.
Overall, 4.5 Stars and I am eager to see if there will be a book 2!
Not sure if there will be another book about these 2 main characters or maybe even different characters in the same world but even with the I'm hoping!
Everything seemed way too easy, too. Major upheaval and changes to the dynamic of his pack? Maybe a couple of grumbles, but over all, not a lot of drama. I mean, sure, there were a couple of assassination attempts, but for the most part, the werewolves seemed ready for the change.
The world was set up with a lot of info dumps (some of which was repeated a chapter or two later), but it was only mildly distracting.
I didn't feel that there was a lot of burning passion in the actual sex, but the devotion and strong loving connection made up for it in my eyes. I wanted to have the pair learn more about each other. Share about their pasts and hopes for the future. I wanted them to be able to interact more than they got to. I think that was the biggest failing in the story: their connection was well written, but it was set up on a foundation of sand. If I think too hard, I question everything. (as you do with most insta-love plots)
Again, I liked this book, it's just easier to talk about what I had issues with. I will be looking for books that are set up in this interesting world. I'd like to see where Luca's reign goes from here. I think that speaks for my enjoyment. I was left with a happy, hopeful warm and fuzzy.
