Women stalk each other and fight among themselves over a man. Relatives, friends, neighbors, even employers get caught up in the disputes. The man terrorizes the woman. Kids are abused, neglected, ignored, sick, or pregnant themselves. Many children are caught in the crossfire between female rivals, between the parents, or between a parent and a "fiance." Mothers don't finish high school, can't find jobs, suffer medically and psychologically, move in with their own parents or with fiance after fiance, and repeatedly call on taxpayers to support them. Baby daddies take no interest in their children, don't support them, expose them to new girlfriends, or are prevented by the baby mama from having a relationship with their children. The Baby Mama Syndrome reveals a world you didn't know existed, a world of unconventional relationships, unrestrained sexual activity, unwed pregnancies, and violence described graphically by the people involved. Be prepared to be shocked, be prepared to be amused, but most of all, be prepared to be concerned -- for the parents, the children, and the rest of us.

Judge Robert Doyel retired in 2010 after nearly 16 years as a Florida judge, mostly in family court. Over the years he handled part or all of 15,000 to 20,000 restraining order (injunction) cases as well as thousands of dependency, divorce, custody, and paternity cases.

Judge Doyel received awards and commendations from the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, three different Florida Supreme Court chief justices, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for his work as a family and domestic violence court judge.

Before going on the bench, he was a law school professor and a board certified trial and appellate lawyer. Judge Doyel has a bachelor's degree (BBA w/Distinction) and law degree (JD) from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree (LLM) and a doctorate (SJD) from the University of Wisconsin.

He is a veteran of the Vietnam War.

In his years on the bench, Judge Doyel developed expertise in domestic violence cases and began to see a consistent pattern of female-on-female stalking, harassment, and violence in cases in which two women were, or previously had been, involved with the same man. This pattern was especially apparent in cases in which one or both of the women had a baby with the man, usually out of wedlock.

That pattern of conflict, a higher incidence of domestic violence, and many other problems associated with unwed pregnancies (including effects on the rest of us) inspired Judge Doyel to write a series of books on what he calls The Baby Mama Syndrome. The first book, subtitled Unwed Parents, Intimate Partners, Romantic Rivals, and the Rest of Us, highlights many of the situations in which the syndrome plays out, often involving sex and violence, described in the sometimes graphic language of the people involved.

The second book in this trilogy focuses on stalking and violence between the women and domestic violence between the baby mama and baby daddy. The third and final book describes conflicts between the unwed parents about child custody, including disputes over who the father is, and includes specific real-life examples of attempts by one parent to manipulate the court system to gain advantage over the other parent. It also presents actual cases of child abuse, abandonment, and neglect, often told in the unwed parents' own words.

The first book was released in December, 2014. Book two is projected for summer or fall, 2015, and book three in 2016.

This is a thoroughly researched and highly readable book about a serious problem that isn't receiving enough attention. Robert Doyel is a former family court judge with years of experience in custody, divorce, dependency, and paternity cases. Based on his courtroom experience, he classifies various types of problems with "baby mamas," "baby daddies," and their families. There are triangles, rectangles, jealousies, betrayals, and many types of manipulations. This book is an opportunity for greater insight into the problems, the causes, the effects, and society's attempts to protect these women and their children. I'm especially impressed by Doyel's research (the demographic data is impressive) and his interest in remedies and solutions - a refreshing change from the helpless hand-writing that's often the response to discussions about "baby mamas" and their problems. This book will be especially useful for professionals who deal with "baby mamas" and their children - law enforcement, medical personnel, social workers, teachers, and clergy. Judge Doyel's discussion of the legal issues associated with "baby mamas" and his thought processes from the judicial bench make this book well worth reading.

This is a graphic account of a little known but rampant problem with our society today. The cost to all in involved is tremendous, as well as to the taxpayers. Conservative and liberals should both read this and take it to heart. This is not a media biased political account, but just the facts of these cases. Judge Doyel makes some excellent suggestions how deal with this problem as well.

I do not know Judge Doyel, personally or professionally; however, I do know of him.. due to the fact I have lived in Polk County,Florida ( off and on) for over thirty years. While living in Polk County, Florida I worked for many years in the medical field and most of those working years where in the medical office of an OB-GYN. During those years I watched as more and more unmarried young women, and teens were having children, and the majority of them were on Medicaid, unemployed and lived in troubled homes. Since I have been out of the workforce the BabyMama/Baby Daddy "family" has become the "norm." I was not at all surprised by the information provided by Judge Doyel; my only surprise is that he did not stress the need for (1) making the parents of underage children more accountable and stressing to them the need for their involvement in the lives of their children (2) Adult Baby Mama/Daddies need to also be held accountable; no public assistance for Baby Mama without proof that she is using sometype of birth control(i.e. IUD, Depo Provera, BC Pills) a note from a physician that the Baby Mama has been prescribed some type of BC and that the Baby Daddy has signed a contract that he will use a condom as well. If the Baby Mama/Baby Daddy once again find themselves in the "family" way; they must consent to a tubal-ligation/vasectomy if they wish to continue receiving public assistance. I know these options may seem somewhat over-reaching; however, major steps have to be taken to stop the cycle of Baby Mama/Baby Daddy Syndrome.

He obviously has put all unwed mothers into the same category. I’m surprised there hadn’t been backlash from this book.
