Always a fun of Henley. Love the original song, and somewhere I came across this while listening to Amazon Prime stations. Just flat out stumbled on it. Wow! stopped in my tracks and was sure make sure I added to my Prime library. Later that wasnt enough as I wanted it on my mp3 player, so I purchased it.

Whats not to like. This Classic is still a classic, and the Ataris rock this!
Why not 5 stars? Its a personal thing, I reserve 5 star for songs that are both emotionally, but moreso, Spiritually lifting. I would give it 4.5 stars if Amazon allows 1/2 stars.

Pros:
- Clean lyrics, not of the trashy lyrics of tunes these days
- Rockin guitars
- This Classic is only enhanced by this rendition
Cons:
- None

Bonus: I would love for this to be available on Guitar Hero :) Not the Henley version, but the Ataris version!

I thought this was going to be the arrangement I remember from the 80's. The singer's voice sounds too abrasive. I really don't care for this version at all. Oh well.... a fool and her money are soon parted...

Sorry ataris but Don Henley cant be topped. Nice try though. Like the harder beat. Don't care for the vocals. Im a little bias considering I think Don Henley's version is one of the best songs ever.

I am old. I remember Henley's original song came out when I was in high school. I was that guy in the song once. This song is all about summer, summer romance, and the bitter sweet memories of youth. It is one of THE summer cruising songs. The Ataris did one of the greatest remakes of any classic song, ever, though Kurt Nilsen's cover of Tal Bachman's She's So High comes close. I find I listen to this version instead of the original. A rare feat and a great cover.

The Ataris didn't desecrate Don Henley's anthem to lost love, DJ Sammy did. The Ataris simply play those notes you know so well on the instruments they use to bare their own soul (DJ Sammy's version has no soul). The Ataris changed the lyrics "[Grateful Dead] Deadhead sticker" to "Black Flag sticker" because that's the icon that, for them, would best represent hypocrisy on a Cadillac (DJ Sammy should have changed the lyrics to "a DJ Sammy sticker").
The Ataris channel Henley's message through the voice of their own experience. I didn't give this song 5 stars because it can't replace the original. I gave it 4 stars because it is a classic on its own merits.
