First, let me say that Susskind is a brilliant physicist, and a passable fishycist. He is able to articulate complicated theories and concepts quite well - a rare talent among his colleagues. That said, I have learned more and been better entertained by PBS SpaceTime on Youtube - a different medium to be sure.
Despite Susskind's obvious brilliance, there are several key flaws to this work, which detract from it to the point of leaving a negative review:
1) Susskind makes no significant mention of competing theories - despite that he is well aware of them. Loop Quantum Gravity being the most obvious.
2) Susskind makes no mention of the fact that the assumption of an unobservable megaverse within a conceptually infinite Landscape is no more or less presumptive than the existence of an intelligent creator - something that, again, I know he is aware of.
3) Susskind is needlessly antagonistic towards religion, especially in the end. Which is odd, because I don't know that this was his intent - and he even goes out of his way to point out that the book offers nothing in terms of evidence against a creator. His antagonism is conveyed entirely in tone - and again, is unwarranted.
4) The book could have been better edited. Susskind often repeats himself with an apparent lack of awareness to the order of topics in his book. I would have thought this could have been an easy catch during revision.
While there were parts I enjoyed - the book reveals a man who is far to impressed and sure of himself - and one who could stand some degree of humility in the face of the questions he has dared to ask. My recommendation is that one pass on this book.
