Cliche after cliche, unfortunately
on August 16, 2014
I bought this book as part of a men's group which enjoys discussing and delving into Christian books with good ideas. Baucham's book doesn't have many, however. His main thesis is essentially that we need to separate ourselves from the world in order to live the way God intends us to live. This means, for instance, that when Baucham's family holds a family meeting to discuss how much his kids want to play in a little league baseball team with occasional games on Sundays, dad weighs in and vetoes the idea altogether, because Sunday is the Lord's Day, and that means no baseball! Thoroughly uninspiring, un-fresh, and disappointing, the book is a collection of tired "let's get back to Baptist basics" cliches that grated on me after the first chapter or two. I tried to give this one a fair shake, but I was sorely disappointed, as was most of the group I attend, I think.
